Opening weekend started off very wet and devoid of deer. Things picked up on Sunday after the rain passed and deer started moving around. Just after 4:00 PM Sunday, a small six point ran a hot doe past me. Less than ten minutes later, a big spike came by trailing the doe. Just a few minutes after the spike was out of sight, this buck came by looking for that doe. He milled around a bit while searching for the trail and I thought he was not going to give me a shot. He finally popped out of the brush out in a clearing and gave me a perfect 85 yard broadside shot. Was shooting my suppressed Ruger American Ranch in .300 Ham’r. Buck only made it 20 yards or so and piled up in the biggest patch of briars in the county. I’ll be digging thorns out of my hands and arms for weeks. Super happy with the result even though I would have been OK with a doe for the freezer.

Nice buck. I hunt far Southwest Arkansas and did good this year as well. Shot a 7 point during muzzleloader week. Then shot a big doe and a really nice 11 point during modern gun. The 11 point is by far the best buck I have ever shot.
