30 minutes before first light is plenty. Some say an hour. Most important? Not forgetting to jack a round in the chamber once you're settled!

I plan on being in my blind at 6:45 a.m. Maybe a few minutes earlier.

I just got settled in. 6:32 A little early even for me, but it is opening day. I have a reputation for being first out and last in. Now at 6:37 MURS sensors are telling me there is something at both of my feeders already.

This is the first time I’ve hunted my ranch in Coleman County on opening day.

I was planning on 6:50 since it was so cloudy, BUT, since I had to turn around and go back home to get my license, I crawled in about 7:10.🤦‍♂️

Heard shot on next ranch at 7:35am. Youthful eyes perhaps

Got in at 630. Was very dark. It’s 750 and have heard no shots. Not even distant ones.

I have heard no shots from any of my neighbors. I can just barely make out a very distant shot from time to time. That is unusual for young county and the area im hunting. The threat of rain and mosquitos must have scared some hunters away. Does and one nice buck moving around. Nice enough that I'm probably foolish for not shooting it. My woods are full of other moving deer. Some chasing going on. And NO hogs!

820. I’ve heard no shots. Pretty unusual for opening day. Did see a doe walking to stand.

30 -60 min before first light. Got here at 7am today and had a tall basket 6 at the pig feeder. 3 does came to the corn feeder and he ran over there and started harassing one doe. Chased her back and forth between feeders for 30 min.
Great morning temp wise but that strong south wind is a little cool as I’m in shorts and T-shirt.

I seen 6 does, no horns, I don’t want to shoot anyway, unless it’s a big one.

One doe and the biggest buck I’ve ever let walk. He looked young. I might regret it in two weeks. I guess my age is getting to me. No cameras out this year and it sure was exciting to be surprised by a deer I haven’t been watching for 2 months!

My son took a cull four point with his bow, we aged him at 31/2.

I try to leave camp about 1 1/2 hour before first light. That gives me a little over hour in the stand before shooting time.
