Got a feeder photo tonight; new record, 26 deer in the pic. Never seen deer eat Sudan hay, but I had eight does on a roll I put out for my sheep. Had tracks in the driveway at the ranch house.

They hungry.

Going to be a very hard winter for the deer.

It should be "easy pickins" for opening day! It's dry everywhere and the deer will be coming to that corn. Hopefully a lot of hunters will take a bunch of deer on opening weekend. PRAY FOR RAIN!!!

Man is it dry! I water trees almost every day and they are just hanging on. I live in big time sand, I dug a hole to plant a tree a few weeks ago that was over 24 inches deep and powder dry at the bottom. The grass burs are making a push to take over everything… how they are alive and green, I’m not exactly sure. The sand is so loose and deep I rolled out some old carpet under my feeder in back at home to keep the corn from disappearing as soon as it hits the ground.

We have been doing our fair share of praying for rain.

Amen to that. this dry is hard. my farm animals are fat and happy becuase i've been shelling out to feed them but i'm going thru a lot of hay already and the animals seem just generally agitated at the hard conditions even though they aren't hungry i guess. deer are hungry too. they've been very interested in the corn to say the least this year. don't get me wrong...i like seeing them when the feeder feeds but i don't like to see them struggle so much. The youth weekend deer we shot had fat on him yet but i bet there's not much or any fat on them by later winter this year.

The rut is gonna be hard on the bucks if it starts when they have little fat reserves. Post rut survival may not be good if we don't get some rain soon.
Quite a few acorns in central tx. so that may help those around here a little.

Thank goodness we had a good acorn crop. I decided to continue to feed cottonseed through the winter (didn't anticipate October would turn out this dry after a great September) and currently they are emptying each hoop in about 10 days. As stated above they are hungry and attitudes are already short on both the does and bucks......

I was wondering if they ate Sudan . They just cut and bailed some on my folks property. It was a jungle out there and I was debating on giving the hay guy a reminder but they cut and bailed within the last week . It looked like a freaking corn maze out there 🤣
