Been practicing with my boy for a while now trying to get him a deer and made good on it. We had the buck he got a short tined 8 a big 9 doe and spike. The 9 got uneasy and took off early. Finally got settled in on the 8 and a 10. First look we learned that red dot sights aren’t great in low light and potentially worse in fog. Waited for a little more light and sight picture was clearer. He was originally looking to get the 8, a little bigger bodied buck but as he wondered into some brush in the tank bottom the ten stood picture perfect broad side head up and watching his buddy walk away. I motioned for him to get on the other deer and moments later boom. He fell at the shot and tried to get up so I asked him to chamber another round but the deer never made his feet and was down for the count. I loaded him some 130 grain Speer hotcore flat point around 2100 fps for a win 94 30-30, and boy did they do a number on him. Good double lung tons of blood and through and through. Couldn’t be happier and neither could he. Thank y’all, was a big morning always hoped he would hunt and he hasn’t been super interested, but this year feel like he has been a lot more excited about it. He woke up and went to bed every day last week saying daddy I’m ready to go to the ranch. Made my heart happy
