Find your local welding shop or farm equipment repair shop, I'm sure they have some scrap plate they would sell you. A local hr had some 1/2" drops we got fair price, just make hanger bracket for saw horses.
Check around.

I use a dozer plate with a hole cut in each side, a rod letting it lean forward to the top; a target on cardboard and put it in front. I’m using this on 22’s to practice trigger squeeze and using Colibri (no powder) ammo. The lead is directed down into the dirt.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.
