See, we said we could wait! A few from last year. Ignore the times.

Those pigs look like they are very close to still having lots of domestic pig in them. I do believe some of them would be headed to my freezer.

Yeah, I don’t know why that is. This is an isolated ranch that’s been in the same family since 1854. It was a grant to the original family owner for his service in the Texas Revolution. The current owner says they haven’t had domestic pigs on the place since the 1930s and there’s no other home within 9 miles of it. I read once that wild pigs revert to black over several generations but there are pigs of many colors there. The “Oreo” pigs are just one of the many colorations. Some are white, some are red, some are black, some are tan and many are a combination of colors.

Yep, lots of Hampshire not too far back there.
Adios,
Gary

Again, pigs haven’t been on this ranch since the 1930s. It’s over 9 miles to the nearest home place and I don’t know if they have pigs or not. I’ve been hunting this ranch since 1997…27 years now. There are no more or no less Oreo pigs now than there were when I started hunting there. Unless someone stops on the road and releases a load of them every few years, this is a permanent color pattern. Sorry if that flies in the face of conventional wisdom, but it is what it is.

Since I can’t exit my previous moment, let me clarify that there haven’t been any DOMESTIC pigs on the property since the 1930s.
