I was told that anterless tags could be used on spike bucks in the month of October on our MLD property in Stonewall Cty.

Is that correct??

I would never believe that to be the case without seeing it from TPWD. Do you not have buck tags, or spike tags? I’m assuming you’re on the Harvest plan. I have a dedicated spike tag, but can’t take him until general rifle.

Sounds like more twisted CRXX you get on the internet! Please consult your TPWD guide, and rules for
all MLD from your local biologist. When the GW shows up at your deer camp, you have some explaining
to do!

I get 3 "unbranched antler" tags along with 20+ doe tags on my place, MLD Harvest. I would not use a doe tag on a spike. I can start shooting spikes Oct. 1 (or the Saturday before, like this year) though. Some kid shoots 1 too many spikes and I'm giving him a coveted buck tag to be legal, and that would be happening during legal regular buck season (Nov.- Feb.).

You don't use tags from your license with MLD permits...and the MLD permits are considered proof of sex.

This is not correct. There are several different levels of MLD. We are harvest option (we chose this) and only get Anterless permits. We are required to use the Buck Tags from our license.

I have used and antlerless for a button buck, where the antler hasn't grown more than 1/2". But that was a long time ago before the AR. I wouldn't do it now with all of the "Bunny Cops" we have now posing as wardens. eek I know there are tons of good wardens, it's just the ones who think their job is to protect the animals FROM you that irritate me.

Under the Harvest option, apparently you have the ability to request either buck or antlerless tags, or a combination of both. Sounds like OldRabbit's group only chose the antlerless option, which lets them tag their bucks with their own licenses.

From the TPWD PDF:
Program participants may choose a harvest recommendation and MLDP tag issuance for:
o only buck deer,
o only antlerless deer, or
o buck and antlerless deer.
