Sounds like you shot them all and are trying to steal from neighbors now. This does not surprise me....

Before you make a decision on what mineral to put out that will genuinely help the deer herd, I suggest that you do a soil analysis. You want to supplement the deer with what they are not getting naturally. In the Hill Country and Trans-Pecos, that is Ph as we have plenty of Ca in this limestone soil. It takes both Ph and Ca to grow bones and antlers. Adios, Gary

I have used the Trace Mineral blocks for cattle. I have been putting one on a cedar stump for the last 20+ years. It has pretty much petrified the stump. I have been down by the area and watched 7 deer cross a cross fence on our place and walk to the stump. It was without the block that day, but they every one went to the stump and licked the stump. There is teeth marks in the stump from cows and deer. I placed another block on it the next day. I have placed them in the hill country inside my feed pens and the deer will dig the ground when the block is gone.

Thanks for info. In Texas had used the Trace Mineral blocs, & mineral rocks (forget the name). From trail cam picks it seemed they hit them more in summer. Was on youtube & seen were some were using, laying mash for chickens, claimed it's good for health of deer . Any input on that ? Winters can be little more harsh here, Deer yards are common, biggest seen personally twas 400-500 @ one time, @ sun-rise coming down a hill ta some standing corn, & then moving inta hilly tree area with creek. Any & all input tis apreseated.

The best thing I ever did was to switch from corn in all feeders to black eyed peas. 21-24% protien all year. Much bigger bodies and antlers.

Several years ago I locked in to STAMPEDE, a soy bean/corn mix made by Micobe Feed in Hamilton, and used it exclusively on the two leases I had been on for 20 years combined.

I hunt on the Briscoe Ranch in Reagan Wells, and at my brother's place in Engle, Tx.
Two things I have done.
Build 30' x 30' hog-proof pens.
Install demand feeders.
I feed exclusively Double Down 20% year around in my demand feeders. I feed corn with a skosh of roasted soybeans in my spin-cast feeders.
IMHO it works!

On my place in Center Texas I use 50lb bags with a mixture of roasted soybeans and corn. I think is says 16% on the bags. Deer love it! The Purina antler max got too pricey. I have a spin type feeder that drops it into trough like platform. I have a round feed pen consisting of 16 hog panels with barb wire about three inches above the top of the panel. Neither the hogs or cows have gotten in the pen yet. Lots of natural food as well. Acorns are usually plentiful and this year looks like a good crop as well.

I put out the cattle blocks but canβt tell that they have been messed with.

I've tried the bean/corn mix. I didn't notice any difference in attraction (I guess they were hungry either way) versus straight corn. It also seemed to me like they wasted a lot of the soybeans. When throwing corn only, there's nothing left after the deer come by. With the bean mix, there was always a good amount of soybeans left after they picked it. For me it was a waste of money. I like the thought of giving them added protein but I'll find another way.
I keep sheep mineral out year-round at my place for my cattle and sheep. It lacks copper (because added copper is bad for wool sheep) but other than that has all the other minerals you'd expect. I mix it with additional stock salt to limit consumption. I don't run cameras on the mineral tubs but I'm sure the deer hit them. I also have liquid feed tubs out a good portion of the year. I have seen a deer or two checking them out but I don't know if they regularly use them.
