Here is a Medina skinner heading out to its new home. It is AEB-L stainless steel, acid etched and stone washed with beautiful desert ironwood scales. Thanks for looking.

I am the recipient of the Medina Skinner pictured above.

I saw John's Medina Skinner on 9/13/24 IIRC when he posted it in this forum.

I have two main passions, collecting guns/custom fixed-blade knives and perforating porkers.

Good Wood turns my crank and quality Desert Ironwood is one of my fav's.

I contacted Mr. Tullis the next day on the 14th IIRC, and we discussed specifics and he agreed to a commission.

John sent me a text on 10/14 saying the knife was ready, and that he would ship it next day.

I was at my lease and replied no hurry as it will be several days before I came home.

I also sent pix of a hoglet I had perforated the night before that had decent tushes.

I figured the knife would be there before I got back and would give it a try.

The one AEB-L blade that I have, the maker got the heat-treat wrong. John said he got his right. I took him at his word........

Anywho, I had not made the time to use the Medina on the hog skull until yesterday afternoon.

So with that in mind here is a vid I made using the Medina Skinner to prep the skull for a European mount. I shot the boar head on and the 150 gr. Norma soft point entered the skull about halfway between the eye socket and the tip of his snout. Feels like the bottom jaw is shattered so I may just end up taking the tushes.

The knife did good ( better n'me as I'm out of practice).

After I finished, I grabbed a sheet of notebook paper to test the edge. The edge had dulled a bit but I was still able to slice through the paper without tearing. That is a good thing.

Once I cleaned up my mess I touched up the blade. I have not put it under a magnifier yet to check for micro-chipping but I was very pleased with the ease at which the blade returned to almost shaving sharp. Even drew blood when I touched it wrong accidentally.

This is my first JTullis creation. It will not be my last.

ya!

Good job GW! the three I bought are all scary sharp as they say. I took one of my three to the ranch this last week. I didn't get a chance to use it as the hogs didn't cooperate this time around. Really dry and saw very little sign. It will get another chance when rifle season opens on the 2nd.
