Beyond qtr law is gone

Hunters have the option to debone their white-tailed deer and mule deer at the property of harvest, provided that:

Meat is processed no further than whole muscles and may not be ground, chopped, or sliced.
Meat from multiple deer must remain in separate bags or containers while transported.
Proof of sex and tagging requirements remain with the meat until reaching a final destination.

I didn’t know the quarter law was gone.

Imo it needed to.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

What is qtr law? Never heard of it.

You couldn’t take a deer down past quarters unless you were at home or the processor. Couldn’t debone a deer in the field.

So in the unlikely scenario you killed a deer way off the beaten path, you couldn’t debone it in the field, you had to carry it out in quarters.

Now you can debone it and probably pack it out in one trip.

On our ranch in Shelby County we will have basically four weeks to harvest does.

I am digging this change. I always thought it was beyond stupid to make me bring out the head of a doe and a bunch of bones I am just going to throw away. I would rather just bring out the meat and leave the rest for nature to recycle than send it to a landfill.

I believe you still need to keep proof of sex (head).

Several options. In QMC case he will probably take mammary as he is use to it in western states, but easiest WRD doc from landowner/agent

the head (skinned or unskinned) of an antlerless deer, OR the mammary organ (udder) or vulva AND the tail if the deer is female;

OR

Instead of proof of sex, the hunter may obtain a receipt for a taxidermist or a Wildlife Resource Document (WRD) from the landowner or landowner’s agent containing the following:

name of the person who harvested the wildlife resource;
date the wildlife resource was harvested; and
one of the following, as applicable:
whether the deer was antlered or antlerless;
the sex of the pronghorn;
the sex of the turkey and whether a beard was attached; or
the sex of the pheasant.

You believe wrong. You can leave a tit attached to a piece as well as the tail to show species. Don't go around guessing, read the regs.
