Just today I saw a pic of a kill that was under 13" and the deer was REALLY big. It came from a very experienced hunter and land manager and he said hes almost never seen one that big and old and that narrow.

DQ is probably right but I’m going with no on both. If the picture is not deceiving me, the deer in the second picture is a little guy. Markedly smaller than the deer behind him. My conversion factor on that makes him too close for me to call.

1st is a no. 2nd is a maybe. I have found that some areas, a deer's ears are more than 13" making the "outside the ear" measurement method not very accurate. Last deer killed on our property that was barely at the ears measured almost 14.5 inches. He was 7 years old (photo evidence). With some deer it is tough to make that call.

I’d say no on 1. Never been to OK. Or personal experience with the deer but understand they are larger bodied on average. If that’s a 200 pound buck then I think he makes it.

I wouldn't take the chance on either in an AR county, at least in Texas

Certainly not on the first. 2nd is really close; it will depend on true body size. He could be 12" or 13.5" or anything in between.

I spent a lot of time looking at the two deer in the second picture this weekend, and the second pic was the best pic I took for antlers, but not for body, so it does make him look quite a bit smaller. The deer in the background is the older buck, I put him in the 4-5.5yo range and the deer in question in the 3-4.5 yo range. I have consistently aged deer older on the hoof than their teeth wear shows, by about a year, so it is possible this is a 3.5 in the foreground and a 4.5 yo buck behind....I wouldn't argue either way.

Having said all that, the deer in OK are a little bigger than in TX, so while I think the deer in the second pic is well within AR rules, I agree I would not shoot if I were in an AR county as he is too close to call.

I have a bunch of euros on my garage wall which would never meet ARs but are cool older bucks, just narrow. Some great character comes out with age, regardless of width, so when they are narrow and old, it gets really funky.

Edit: added pics of their bodies, obviously they will look bigger once they get their full necks in another couple weeks.

Good information with pics here. Typically if i have to ask "if hes wide enough?" better to let him walk!

You can't tell looking from behind an animal. They always look bigger from behind.

If you have to ask, then NO!
The other question to ask yourself is.... can I afford to pay the fine for shooting a deer that I inquired about on the internet and they said I was good.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

First one no. Second one 'maybe'.

I have a number of bucks in my herd 3.5 yrs old and older that are narrow like buck #1 in your post.

I am in an A/R county.
