Kid selected for Buffalo Lake NWR hunt. Anyone ever hunted this area before and have any details to share? Is this a good area to hunt?

I drive by there everyday on the way to work and have been through the property numerous times... small canyons, elms in the bottoms, very easy to get around very good mule deer. Hope not to jinx you but should be a very easy hunt and perfect for a youth hunter. I have an Air BNB you are welcome to stay in at no cost if its not booked when you get here.

Thank you so much for your response, and I’m thrilled to hear that it’s such a great place for hunting! I was really hoping that would be the case, especially since a 9-hour drive would be quite the journey just to find out otherwise!

I sincerely appreciate your generous offer regarding the AirBnB, but I’m one of those people who believes in always paying my own way. That said, if you happen to have an AirBnB available during that time and it’s convenient for the area, I would definitely be interested in renting it from you!

Thanks again for all the great info—I’m really excited to get up there and experience this with my kid!

Call Muleshoe NWR and ask for Jude Smith and ask him to fill you in on how they run the hunt. Same manager as Buffalo Lake I believe. Super nice guy. If it is anything like my experience Quail hunting at Muleshoe, I am certain they will go above and beyond to help y'all have a great hunt. Check your PMs for his number.

PM received. Many thanks for sharing this information with me, it's greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the responses, everyone! Once the hunt is over, I’ll circle back and update this thread so that anyone looking for information in the future will have a firsthand account to reference.
