After 16 years I finally drew the Gun deer either for Marador WMA. I am looking for any pointers or tips from guys that have done this hunt in the past. I had a quail lease in Paducah a few years back so I am somewhat familiar with the terrain. I just have no idea which pastures on wma have more or better WT than others. I have hunted mule deer and white tail in the western states so I am somewhat familiar with hunting big open country and I already have all the gear, like spotting scope, pack, LR rifle.
I greatly appreciate any help! I am very excited!

We hunted it 3 years ago for the WT tag. I did a lengthy post daily. Look it up, and pictures should still be accessible. East units better for WT, Western ones for mule deer
Beer and whiskey, 'cause you can't drink bacon!!

I hunted Matador on a Mule Deer Archery hunt in 2013. I saw whitetail in the eastern part of the WMA adjacent to the flat pastures and mule deer further west when I was able to scout the area on the Sunday afternoon and Monday morning before the hunt. I don't know the rules on scouting but I took the position that it never hurts to ask and was able to. I ended up in Lone Canyon based on what I saw scouting and I had the first draw choice.
I hunted the water holes some but that was a bust. A change in weather half way through the hunt shut the deer down.
That was in October so a later hunt may bring better results.

The working windmills have water troughs if wanting to hunt over something.

I’ve hunted here before and I can tell you that the wind never stopped blowing the whole time I was there. Take chapstick and cover your face as much as possible to keep windburn down. Loads of coyotes. I saw the biggest WT buck i’ve ever seen in the wild but unfortunately I was on a WT doe hunt. Prepare for long shots depending on where they put you. Take a GPS. Be prepared to carry your kill a long way. I didn’t kill anything but it was one of the best hunts I’ve ever been on.
