We got lucky and were drawn for Gun Deer Management at Devils River SNA and the Lower Rio Grande Valley NWR archery deer, but the the hunts overlap all but one day. Which one should we hunt? Any insight would be helpful.
How many exotics are at the Devils River SNA and how many Nilgai are left in the National Wildlife refuge? We are more interested in those than the deer opportunities. But still excited either way, sad that we burned some points for nothing though. Last year we werent drawn at all, and this year we have drawn two youth hunts and a squirrel hunt in addition to these two.
thanks

It's a no brainer to me. I would choose Devils River. It's a top 2 or 3 Texas Public land hunt in my book. It's been years but my son's group shot several aoudads when we went and it seemed like every single unit shot something. They only thing is that you have to be in decent shape but that applies to nilgai too. We bow hunted for Nilgai at a similar place close to that one that one last year and only 2 guys out about of 50 harvested a nilgai with their bow. They are hard to bring down with a rifle much less a bow..... PM me if you want some pictures

Agreed. LRGV is much easier to redraw

Do you want a western style high success hunt or one where your mostly just sitting somewhere fighting mosquitos all day? Devils River hands down. That is a great draw.
