Son landed 2 like this over the weekend from shore at mouth of the Sydenham basically downtown Owen Sound. He lives and works local to the area and gets off work at 8 pm on weekends. Hit the river 830 pm Saturday/Sunday night and had one each night by 10 pm. ![[Linked Image]](https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54000939695_44fe4e0bde_c.jpg) First one gave him a 20 minute run for his money and second one took 25 minutes to land.

What kind of salmon? Nice fish! Chinook aka King salmon. Native to the Pacific NW from Oregon to Alaska. They were stocked in the upper Great Lakes starting close to 60 years ago to control an invasive species called alewives. The stocking program was very successful at controlling the alewives and created a bonus sport fishery worth +/- $7 billion a year. Meat is highly sought after - wild caught fish like the one in pic sell for $25+ per pound as a whole fish at a market. Between the 2 he took home there is +/- $600 worth of salmon for steaks and the smoker.

Congrats, cool fish and good eating. Caught a couple fishing in Lake Michigan in 98. Good eating for sure.
