What's the skinny on this? You guys ever set them up and if so what scrape juice did you use and tell me about your setup. I see stuff on hunting shows (but their selling stuff) and lots of magic potions on the shelf at the LSG store.

I've never had a lot of luck with mock scrapes but after seeing a set up my BIL had in the panhandle, I gave it a try. Used Golden Scrape scent (Academy & Walmart carry) in a dripper, hung it back arms reach in a brushy bush / cedar, had several middle age and mature deer come to it, sniffing, rubbing and pawing trying to get to the dripper to mark their own scent to cover up the mock scent.

I tried it some years back. A couple of bucks showed up when I wasn’t there but never when I needed them.

I tried it some years back. A couple of bucks showed up when I wasn’t there but never when I needed them. When combined with a game camera, mock scrapes with an overhanging licking branch can offer you views of bucks you might otherwise never know are in the area. Then it becomes a matter of going to Step 2 by looking for stand sites that leverage potential bedding areas and preferred travel routes.

I've had success in SW Ark and NE TX with mock scrapes with above licking branch on the right ridges or edges. Used primariy tinks (any solution) but way back used Buck Scrape (don't think is mfg anymore). Woiuld place a few leaves or small stick in the mock (before cameras) to easily tell is mock scrape freshened up. Now with camera's is easier to determilne if deer using a mock scrape. South and NW TX never got confirmation mock scrape works.

Sometimes, but not always. James Kroll did some research on this several years ago and wrote an article about it. It was pretty interesting. You might can find it by googlefoo.

Many years ago while bowhunting on an East Texas lease I had bought some Tinks and one of those pads you strap to the bottom of your boot. I really did not know what I was doing, but I used the Tinks on that pad more as a cover on my walk to put up a tree stand mid day, but I did make a mock scrape with it. It had rained that morning so there were no fresh deer tracks in the sand when I put that stand up. When I went back to hunt it that evening there was a set of large heavy deer tracks in my tracks that followed mine for the last two or three hundred to my stand, but they stopped at the bottom of my tree. The deer did not use the mock scrape, but it followed the scent of that tinks step for step for a long ways.
My only other mock scrape story is when I was hunting the national forest with a new hunting partner. We were both bowhunting and scouting to put tree stands up for an evening hunt. When I found the spot I picked, I looked down while I was putting my stand up and saw my hunting partner taking a piss under my stand. He tried to tell me he was just making a mock scrape for me. I was not a happy camper about it and I let him know it too. I saw nothing on that hunt. But I have since read a study that was done where scrapes were made with both a commercial product and with human urine. Probably the same study by Dr. Kroll that drycreek mentioned. I don't remember the actual results, but I do remember human urine did work in the study. If I remember right, just as well as the commercial product I think.
That is my only two mock scrape experiences.

There’s a scrape about 75 yards away from my house that I can see from my front windows. Over the last few days I’ve seen 8 different bucks work it. Some people think it’s just an individual buck but they all hit them. It’s like the urine posts I put in the ground next to coyote traps. They all pee on it but I start it off with trapping supply pure coyote urine.

I've put this up before, I think...I used Tinks 69 a few drops on a three inch piece of napkin and hang it on a limb about head high. The tinks will do the work for you as the bucks will make a scrap below the scent pad. I had scent pads all around my area about 32 of them and those produced about 12 scraps made by bucks. The seize of the scrap seems to indicate the age and size of buck. Big bucks seem to make large scraps but also a small 4 point will make a few paws in the scrap also from time to time. The scent pads work every year with success. I recommend the Tinks 69 liquid only. I started using the scent pads around Sept. 15 I think and used them all year long and refreshed them every time I was at the lease. This worked for me every year.

We’ve tried them all. Can’t day they have really made a difference.

Tinks 69 is very powerful stuff...if you used it you would remember it. I don't now anyone that used Tinks 69 that was unhappy with it. When ya use Tinks the scraps will have a liking branch right above the scrap area around shoulder high. The bucks will also chew on my scent pads.
