I have a good friend who manages a 640 acre high fence ranch in North Texas and needs a wildlife consultant
Has about 160 acres that he is wanting to plant for dove
Also has a 20 acre area that is connected to a 30 acre lake and wants to flood for waterfowl
And yes we are all wildlife consultants however looking for someone that consults for a living:)

Have him check with the local TPWD biologist. They do that all the time.

Have him check with the local TPWD biologist. They do that all the time. Good idea, that's what I did for my deer when I HF'D. I knew the answers but just wanted to double check myself.

You could check with the Regional DU guy. In the past they have provided a good deal of the "design" work, specs, etc...they just want to get projects done...sounds like they may have the kind of knowledge to at least point you in the right direction.

Even though DU is a con for most hunters, they are a hell of resource for private on state and federal grants. Nothing like feds/state paying you to build flood control wetlands, paying you to plant corn, insuring it, getting paid insurance money on dry land yeild….. all = you getting paid essentially to hunt ducks

Is friends overall interest in providing wildlife habitat, or a place to whack a bunch of birds? Big difference in the two. For each project, you need accessible food supply. Good seeds for dove with as little of competitive undergrowth as possible(burn/harvest for hay). And the waterfowl project needs seeds that could be flooded. Nothing against DU people, but some lean more towards wetland habitat than a duck hole.

Bob Waldrop with Tyler Fish Farms works all across the state on pond/lake projects and is known as the best expert in Texas when it comes to pond/lake construction. May want to call him about that part of the project 903.849.2081

May get them to come out for large projects- they won’t mess with 20-30 acre wetland project. They will refer you to local NRCS office
