Shot this guy on Sat and smoked his shoulder and ham on Monday. Came out tender and sweet without the funky smell you sometimes get. Some BBQ beans and corn on the cob rounded out the meal.

Good job!

I've had good experiences utilizing young shoats like yours...but I won't fool with a grown, rank boar. I've heard folks swear that it can be done but with as many feral hogs as this world has, why work that hard?

Agreed. I've had good luck with big boars when I have Kuby's make sausage with them but that's about it. But, 99% of the time I drag them off for the birds. If I do want to keep one I'll cut a chunk off the ham and cook it at the ranch. No funk = keep / funk = bone yard

Bbq looks great

I’m with y’all, I’ve eaten all make size and manner of them. I don’t care what some say, it isn’t how I handled the meat etc. some just stink. We almost exclusively eat sows and an occasional very young boar.
