Be careful. They are way faster than you could ever guess.

Did it once back in the '90s in Louisiana. The way they did it down there, it was basically running a trotline with a sidearm. Biggest we took was a 10-footer; based on that experience I'll pass on an 11...
Gator tail meat is awfully good eating, though!

Back when I was active duty my ship pulled into Ft. Lauderdale and I arranged to go out with one of the FL State Gator Control Officers for problem gators. We got 3 that day with the biggest being this one which was right at 9ft. It was an interesting day.

Nice size gator by the way.

Nice size gator by the way. Yep. Live capture. The FL State Trappers are allowed to keep and sell the gators for their pay. They guy I went with had a big walk in cooler (something like 20 ft on each side with a concrete floor) and he would tape the mouths and legs and put them in the cooler alive and they would go in a dormant state in the cold. Every 2 weeks he would kill them by severing the spinal cord behind the head and take them to be processed. The day I went with him he had over 20 gators in the cooler including one a little over 13 ft. He told me he averaged 650 gators a year and he got $18 a foot for skin and $3 a lb for meat when they were processed and he sold the skulls to a taxidermist that bleached them and sold them to the tourists. He had been a state gator trapper for over 20 years and supported his family with it.
