I’m 36 years old and finally saw my first horny toad. We have had this place for 8 years and this is the first year we have seen any. I’ve spent tons of time all across Texas outside, and never seen them. Pretty cool

We used to play with them and trade them for cool stuff at jamborees.

Glad to find someone who knows what they are. Too many people think they are horned toads or horned lizards. But, those people generally aren’t native Texans.

Had a bunch of them on a lease in san saba in early to mid 90's. I even had a couple of them for pets. love these little guys!
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

I think Texas Parks and Wildlife has a restoration effort going on and have been transplanting some last couple years. Hope it works.

Used to catch a ton of them in Kenedy TX at my uncle's house back in the 1960's. Loved to handle them!

Haven’t seen one in years. What happened to them? I've heard that the fire ants have had a devastating effect on them, and as the fire ant control efforts have had some success, the little horny toads are able to make a bit of a comeback.

They are awesome creatures. Grew up with them out in Midland, they were everywhere. Love those suckers.

When I was a kid in Elmore City, OK, they were plentiful. The kind old lady next door to my grandparents house would make "chariots" out of match boxes and we'd have a race or two then turn them loose. A little later, still a youngster we relocated to the Rio Grande Valley and they were plentiful there as well. I'm good friends with people are actively trying to get the little guys restored but they're still, unfortunately, fairly rare. Good to see a picture of one. Thanks.

Seen a few growing up in Clay county. Nothing here in Wise yet. They need plenty of harvester ants around to eat.
