I was looking at applying for this hunt . But, the way I read it there has to be two people in a group and the group gets a choice of one mule deer or one cow elk. That’s pretty odd if true. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/08/full-26814-429084-img_2038.png)

Confusing for sure and the bag limit management buck with forked antlers with no more than 8 antler points greater than 1 inch in length? They must have 1 deer spotted that fits this description as all points have to be less than 1 inch sounds almost next to impossible even for a yearling.

I read that as no more than an 8 point, with a point counting as anything over 1 inch. Not and 8 point with each point under 1 inch.

Yep that's a better reading ...not more than 8 points greater than 1 inch (plain English)

Think whitetail 8 pt configuration ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/08/full-5357-429499-img_0126.png) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/08/full-5357-429500-img_0124.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/08/full-5357-429501-img_0125.jpeg)
Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, b/c they know not victory nor defeat"- #26 TR

I was drawn for this hunt in 2016 I think. It was a guided hunt with 2-1 guide. you would flip a coin on first shooter. When I went the group of 4 were all individual draws. We just paired up and each group had a guide. When they say food and lodging provided we had a ranch/bunk house. The food was outstanding. They had two ladies a mother daughter for cooks and if you left the table hungry it was your fault. These ladies had breakfast on the table when you got up. Hot lunch at noon, and fully cooked meal for supper with home made deserts. The guide worked for you like you were a paying customer. We all killed our MD except the guy I was paired with and that was because he left after the first afternoon. He was driving out of the ranch the next morning while the guide and I was dragging my deer off the side of the hill. You will see some really good deer, but you are there to kill culls. They would not let you shot Elk at that time. I offered the guide a tip and he stated " We are already taken care of ". I hate to encourage more competition for this draw, but you never know when you might hit the lotto. Hope this helps. And yes I still put in on this hunt every year.

Given the choice a mule deer buck and a cow elk I'm taking the cow every time. But I grew up in CO and have shot a lot of mulies and I hunt for meat and a cow elk provides a lot of really tasty meat. But to each his/her own.
