To go outside and get some stuff done.
100* in the shade here. Had big plans of getting a lot of work done…need to do some weed eating, clean some brush and small cedars and haul a tote of water out. Daughter decided she wanted to come with me so after an appointment we headed out here. She’s curled up in the recliner watching tv right now in the A/C
Hard to justify going outside right now and even filling feeders. May wait until closer to sundown.
Season is creeping up on us, pretty quick. Debating getting another feeder online for bow season.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I’ve been to the lease the last 2 Sundays to fill feeders and set up another dedicated pig feeder. Try to start working around 8am and be inside by noon or so. Going again tomorrow to build a pen around the recently placed pig feeder. 12 tposts in the bone dry west tx ground will be a challenge since it’s forecasted for 108. Lots of PowerAid and water.

I work around here at night with a good headlight. I’ve overdone it in the heat of the day before so I won’t make that mistake again.

Why not start at daylight when it's in the 70's?
Remember the phrase "up with the chickens"?

Used to be I loved working in the heat of day. A horrific bout with Covid and those days are done. Now when I have work to do, it’s up at dawn and work until 10 am ish, and/or the last hour or so of the day. It seems as we start to move into fall our ranch work is steady.
Distance is not the issue, but the winds can make it interesting!

I'm basically retired, (except for cattle and the outfitting) so it's daylight to noon for me.

Daylight til I can’t stand it for work. Usually will collect camera chips in afternoon since I can do 75% of the cameras from my car and be in the AC.

I got home late last night from a long weekend. @12:45 in Lubbock, it was still 91. This was in the shade in Mills county earlier in the day (102).

I ended up working till 4pm yesterday after encountering some problems. The Treeline feeder I bought and set out last week had a bad timer so I had to go to the TSC in Eastland (60 Mille round trip) for a replacement. Got back to the lease to discover they gave me one from a protein feeder and the plug pins were different. Ugh. Finished up my pen building and made another trip for the correct timer. Finally got on the road home at 6pm. It was 111 at one time earlier!

Remember the phrase "up with the chickens"? I had a work appointment earlier that day which put me at the property at around noon. Took a nap and around 4 I couldn’t take it no more so I went and put corn in all the feeders. Neighbor. Came by around 6:30 and we talked under an oak until around 7:30. Wasn’t a real productive day but did get a few things done. Gonna go up in a week or two and really bust arse to get it in shape for season

I should have retired in February instead of July 15- doesn't take long to sweat down.

yep, been so busy all summer, I haven't even had much of a chance to think about getting things rolling. But now that you mention it, yeah, I gotta get busy ... already have Labor Day weekend plans at the Fairfield lease, tractor work around camp, around stands/feeders, move 2 stands, fill feeders, fresh batteries. Hopefully can get things done day break to noonish over a couple of days to beat most of the heat. Doesn't leave much time for my central TX place or the one SW of Ozona ... ugh!!!

Was painting pipe fence this morning till 11am, that's when it hit 100. I had to quit, was getting a headache and a little dizzy. Cooled off and hydrated now, but still not feeling 100%.

Stompy must be keeping up a "show place." I'm way too lazy for that. When I do finally get around to actually sweating, I try to hydrate before starting with that Liquid IV powder in a bottle of water. We're in a dangerous season - be careful!

As mentioned by 68rustbucket, Thurs, Friday and Saturday supposed to be in the 90's. Much better than 100's. At least 90 sounds better.

Be careful out there. I knocked out a really tough workout for about an hour in the garage (no A/C of course) this afternoon. Was a tad hot. Sweated buckets. Had a doc checkup after - he said my heartrate was elevated to 100-120 (it's usually 60-70) and that I'd put myself on the edge of a heatstroke and was dehydrated. "You're too old to be that damn stupid" was his direct quote. "And drink more water." Be careful out there. No one wants to attend your funeral in August. Have the decency to not keel over until it cools off a bit.
