Had this guy as my 1st target buck last year. At least 6 1/2 by my estimation. A very solid specimen - not real wide. but good tine length and overall mass. Saw him early in the season and he already had an eye guard broken off at the beam. i kind of like 'em intact and chose toroll the dice and let him go.

Had one of the best spring and summer rain years in recent memory and boy did I think this decision could have turned out for the better. No problem with his body condition this year, but look at the caddy whompered horns. There is a glaring disparity between the keft and right sides. It'll be interesting to see how he finishes out. That there deer is going to dress out at a high weight and especially if taken out early. He'll actually gain weight between now and season. The splayed horn ten behind him will be a first seen immediately shot effort. Identifiable for three years now, I don't think he's ever had a tine which would measure 7 inches. Our rules won't allow culling of 10's until at least 5 1/2. He's done.

Had a period when cows started jumpting into the pens, consuming every oz of protein and cottonseed while damaging the pens and feeders in the process. Somes on here seemingly enjoyed my plight and certainly a certain Gillespie County resident. Other lease members came in and fabricated metal pipe pens 4 foo tall while others (more of them) spent $100 per 10 foot panel four foot high. I maintain four pens with each being 48 feet square. I could not do the fab thng and no way I was going to spend the cash for $100 ten foot panels to cover over 700 linear feet of pen fencing (add that up). Bought solar set ups, ran a single wire above the 34 inch hog panels and then there we found ourselves with no more cows getting in and wreaking their havoc. Had less than $300 in it per pen. Installation was a breeze.

I knew it was a roll of the dice. For whatever reason, my rear view mirror view is much clearer than the front windshield.

You are right, neither does onward & forward which is why I wil do the best with what I have to deal with. It's only been a couple of days with the camera running. I know one of the bucks I was looking forward to seeing has moved a mile and hal away and there are others not yeen seen or otherwise recognized. Activity is slow at the pens and frankly, that's a good thing.

To each their own but think I like the look of him better this year. At 6.5 I’d probably shot him last year though, heck of a solid mature buck.

Broken tines are an easy fix. Once its done nobody will know the difference.

Nice. Have a buddy with a place south of Pearsall I've gotten to go the last several years. My first experience with real South Texas brush country. Very cool area. It's amazing what all lives in/around that stuff.
