I have two pig pipes out on our place. I have had them out for over 12 years, but never paid much attention to the direction they were rolled up on the stake. I have been looking at this lately for about 2-3 months now and they are always rolled in a clockwise direction. I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed this or not. The pipes are on level ground in both locations. Just throwing this out there for someone else to comment.

Interesting. Mine’s on a chain with a ring on the end over a t-post so it doesn’t get wrapped up.

Mine is a cable, but it has a loop at both ends and the have always wrapped it up tight against the stake almost every time. It's different ones rolling, because I eliminated some of those rollers.

I put a stainless swivel made for boat anchors on mine so it doesn’t get twisted up. My pigs must be ambidextrous because they roll it around in both directions.

My pig pipe in East Texas is on a cable to a D ring. I have a cable run between two trees as high as I can reach. The D ring slides on the cable between the trees and has just enough cable from D ring to the pig pipe for it to lie flat on the ground. The pig pipe is rolled all over the place clockwise, counter clockwise and back and forth. There is no center axis and nothing to get twisted or tangled on. There is no pattern.

[video:youtube] https://www.youtube.com/shorts/18fzqrMxE7g[/video] As with the responses here, sure enough, they do it counterclockwise as well. Now, why you are finding your clockwise wrapped may just be a sampling error or proclivity of the circumstances or you have some very unique hogs (which is unlikely).

My cable is attached with an eye bolt in the pipe that spins and a big loop on the stake. They still wrap it around the stake, but it always empty.

I need to get one of these! I have one about 12 inch diameter made from expanded metal. Don't work real good. It was given to me. I know there are hogs on my place!

i think mine go back and forth. i have it anchored to a ground anchor that is used for foothold traps and then swivels at the pipe.

Come to think of it the last two pigs I shot on the pig pipes where pushing it counter clock wise. I shot a boar just last night that was going that way.

Some once told me it has to do with the wind direction. They like to be able to detect danger especially the educated ones

Pigs tend to be creatures of habit, so it's possible that they have a preference for rolling the pipes in a particular direction, like clockwise. It could be due to the way they approach the pipes, or maybe it’s just the natural motion that feels more comfortable for them.Since your pipes are on level ground, it’s less likely that gravity or slope is influencing the direction, which makes this even more intriguing. I haven’t come across a lot of data on this specific behavior, but it might be something related to the dominant side of the pigs or just a quirk of how they interact with the pipes. It would be interesting to see if others have noticed the same thing or if their pigs roll the pipes in the opposite direction.
