My son has been practicing and wants to try out bow hunting this year. My question is what is the best style of broadheads for a bow that is set up in the high 30 lb range? I wouldn’t let him shoot more than about 20 yards and probably only at does till we get that poundage up. One person at our local bow shop suggested a 2 blade fixed broadhead for that situation. What is your opinion?

Slick trick or Magnus stinger w/bleeder blades

Set numerous people up with setups like you are saying with G5 Montech heads and they did very well with them. NAP Hellrazor is another and there are several others of the same style.
Broadheads that cut from the razor sharp tips do have one draw back by not stretching the skin much at all they do not open as large of a hole for entry or exit as other designs do but do penetrate very well.
I like 3 blades but the Magnus also work bleeder blades give a little more cutting and open that wound so it doesn't seal off as easily restricting blood flow and are another good choice as Tx said.

Thats why I recommended the slick trick 4 blade with the chisel tip. Makes a good hole and my kids had good luck with it in low poundage bow setups. I 100% prefer a hole rather than a slit. The rage now is single bevel two blades but I don't like the blood trails I've got from the couple I've shot with them

What is your opinion? Aim low, pre corn at 20 yards and just get 100gr magnus stinger w or w/o bleeders. W/o is probably a little safer for him. Only other Broadhead I recommend is the grim reaper hades pro in 3 or 4 blade. But I’m hesitant to let kids use them,

Im a big fan of single bevel, two blade, heavy broadheads and as high an FOC as you can obtain.. especially for lower poundage bows (my wife only shoots at about 40lbs).. the problem is most broadheads that fit that description are insanely expensive.. the exception is Crimson Talon broadheads out of Melissa, TX.. a 3 pack of their broadheads are $29 and if youre in the DFW area they typically ship the same day you order and theyre on your doorstep within 72 hours... I used their 200gr Cleavers on a 600lb wildebeest in South Africa in 2023.. it performed flawlessly and not only got a clean total pass through, but the arrow still had enough momentum left in it that it continued to fly for another 15 yards past where it exited the wildebeest and only then stopped flying because it hit the ground (shot was taken at a slight downward angle).. I use their 150gr Cleavers for deer, hogs, etc.. They come out of the pack razor sharp.. and are super easy to put a razors edge back on them when needed.. I cant recommend them highly enough.. https://korekut.com/product-category/single-bevel-broadheads/

The slick trick SB would make a good choice. It is the sharpest broadhead i have ever handled, right out of the package.

Stingers. At that low of velocity there shouldn’t be any issue to broadhead tune.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.
