Lucky little punk.

We had some catfish rods out with whole bluegills.

I ran off to use the facilities and when I got back he was holding that fish.

Only the second smallmouth that I've seen in Texas and my 13yr old lands it.

Gorgeous fish.

Used to whack them on the Devil's every summer when I was a kid. Lots of fight per lb and a ton of fun to catch.

Gonna be hard to top that.

Did y’all keep it?

Good work, young man! That's a beauty. I've caught 2 of them in Lake Travis, but they were much smaller than this one!

Released.

We were there to hold a spot on the shore for a buddy's wedding.

Did some fishing to fill the time.

That's a solid 5 lb. smallmouth.

Be a long time before he catches another one like that in a Texas Lake.

Outstanding! You might be able to go back to that same bank and catch it again.

A buddy at work wondered if it would have broken the youth record on Grapevine.

I didn't even bring a stringer. We were fishing to pass the time more than anything.

Or next time know there are catch and release lake records by length too. A picture with a tape measure and let it go, then submit the picture with the application.
Currently 22.50 inch for Smallmouth. Same as the weight record. The current record holdler must have had a scale and released it. The Catch and Release Flathead on there is mine BTW. I am surprised it is still standing after 15 years.
