Is moving to Atlanta this year. WTF???!!! Kay Baily Hutchinson Convention Center is being remodeled. We knew this was going to happen as of last year. It was announced last year as being the last in Dallas for up to 5 years and that DSC would be in Atlanta. The alternative is going to the Houston Safari Club show Jan 16-19. https://hscfdn.org/convention/attendees/

DSC will do fine in Atlanta. It’s a big hub with a lot of convention space.
It won’t hurt at all. The local traffic missed from DFW locals will be supplemented from people in Atlanta and surrounding areas.
The hard core DSC supporters will still go, just like SCI supporters and Sheep show guys

I think the problem is the hard core supporters arent enough... and a lot of the hard core supporters are pretty upset about the way DSC handled the move... The bulk of DSC's annual contributions/donations/revenue come from the show.. a significant number of the people that attend the show every year are from NTX.. and many of those people wont be going to ATL.. unless hunters in the Southeastern US are going to turn out in extremely large numbers (enough to replace the thousands upon thousands of NTX residents that attend every year), theres a good chance DSC is going to face some challenging times in the next few years..
TTHA is actually having a very large show on the same dates DSC will be in Atlanta in 2025 (directly and intentionally competing)... and they are IN the Kay Bailey Convention Center, in Dallas, on those dates...
DSC clearly had the option to stay at least one more year..
Combine all of this with the DSC CEO resigning just a few weeks ago and DSC not having a replacement on a short leash yet... and From about Sept - Dec is when a HUGE amount of the activity takes place that supports the show.. AND as of yet DSC hasnt really addressed how its going to manage the fact that the Dallas show is almost 100% staffed by volunteers, the overarching majority of whom are DFW residents.. and come up with the number of volunteers needed to manage a show of this scale/magnitude (it takes hundreds working multiple shifts...)..
Things may well get dicey for the club..
I hope they figure it all out.. Ive been a life member for a long time, have volunteered at the last 6x shows, and used to be fairly heavily involved in the local Dallas chapter... I think international hunting needs DSC to do well...
But Im pretty uncertain right now..
(and will for what its worth be attending the TTHA show in January in Dallas rather than going to Atlanta.. the same as almost every person I have talked to about it that is a Dallas local will be doing as well)...

It's a tradeshow. Whether people book hunts and buy other stuff is what matters to the vendors, not how many wander through the door. Money talks and...

I think the real question is how the show will be run without the 100+ local volunteers. That’s a ton of cash to pony up.

I think the real question is how the show will be run without the 100+ local volunteers. That’s a ton of cash to pony up. How does SCI or SHOT show continue to make it? DSC is a national organization. It’s not dependent on DFW and its citizens to make it successful. I could be wrong, but I see it flourishing like SCI did when they moved from Reno/Vegas to Nashville

So, Texas Trophy Hunters Association is moving their big show to Kay Bailey? I will attend this if the aisles are wider that Ft Worth.

I've spoken with a few Africa outfitters and they are concerned about DSC in Atlanta and adding Pittsburg to their lists for next year I will not go to ATL but probably TTHA in Dallas (hope its better than Ft Worth)

1. DSC didnt have a choice due to the logistics surrounding the remodel. Dallas was not an option.
2. Anyone pissed about Atlanta, please, post your alternatives and I'll tell you why none of them will work

My ONLY problem with gun shows, etc is that I have to pay an entry and parking fee to see if I want to buy anything.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Yep. Throw in the needs of the show in terms of the size of the venue, ease of international travel, and an attached top-notch hotel. Then mix in that most convention centers book 3-5 years in advance and they basically had 2 years, and all of a sudden, ATL makes a LOT of sense.

I wonder if Jerry's World was ever considered? Probably his price was too high!
But glad to hear the TTHA is in Dallas, although still hate driving in that area!
