Google could give bad information.
So, I thought I'd ask here.

Probably 15 mph max for 100 yds or so. Only takes a few body lengths to get to speed. Shot one with a pistol @ 20 yds, broke his front leg and didn't slow him a bit.

I bet closer to 25 mph for bursts. I don't think an Olympic sprinter could keep up with a spooked pig

I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.

I see hogs moving at various speeds, almost like they had gearing. These are all rough approximations based on observations, estimations, and calculations.
Stopped Slow walk while feeding 0.1-2 mph Walking speed roughly 3-4 mph Trotting 5-10 mph Slow Run 15-20 mph Full speed 25-30/35 (30 mph is what Google turns up, but I have read 35 mph other places)
For walking and slow run, I calculated hog speed based on approximate flight time of my bullet and the distance traveled between recoil and impact, so it is slightly better than eyeball assessment).
So when the shooting starts, I may see hogs trot away when they don't understand what is going on and they often will stop and re-assess the situation. There is the slow run that I see commonly after the first shot (commonly). Then there is the full speed panic run that either comes with the first shot or some subsequent shot (sometimes). It is like the first shot or two startles them and then the next shots really put fear into them.

I pace them when I'm on my Ranger frequently. If they are being shot at multiple times or chased with a vehicle, 30-35. If they are just on an average run toward cover 20-25.

Slower than the 6.8 I'm hunting them with....that's all that matters.

When I had my pig feeder at 200yrds we calculated my required lead after the first shot based on 30mph. Seemed to work.

After the 2nd shot...once they realize that they are under full scale attack...I fully believe 30-35MPH. Surprising how fast a damn pig is. Don't think they can hold that speed for long though.

Years ago we built a whole lot of barb wire fence for an old rancher. He told a tale of a hog running off. He said he had a pretty dang fast quarter horse at the time. His horse could not close on that hog, before the hog made it to the woods. He said it was over 1/4 mile but less than a 1/2 mile, if my memory serves.

I've come to the conclusion you'll never out walk a pig unless they are feeding. Now a gut shot pig will slow down much more quickly than a pig shot through the heart lungs while on a panic run., giving you a better chance at a kill shot on the gut shot pig. Seen plenty of times blood spraying out the side of a heart/lung shot pig that made into the brush.

" when the shooting starts, I may see hogs trot away" I think the 'thunk' of a hit bothers them more than the shot. The danger is people or a thunk, not the noise specifically.

Seen plenty of times blood spraying out the side of a heart/lung shot pig that made into the brush. I made a kill shot on a trotting boar a few months ago. 'Just didn't know it 'til the next day. He'd kept on trotting out of sight behind brush and I didn't really think at that yardage, with an open peep sight, that I had a snowball's chance in hell of hitting him. 'Had to try though, so I just raised over his back and tried to follow through. Apparently, he gave up the ghost as soon as he got outa my sight. Blind luck, but it did put a spring in my step for a bit.

I've come to the conclusion you'll never out walk a pig unless they are feeding. Something about them having 4 legs versus your 2, them carrying nothing and you carrying all your gear...and they just seem to glide effortlessly over the landscape, no matter how rooted and rutted it is.

A few years ago I had a group of pigs run out in front of me on a smooth dirt road on our lease while I was on my ATV. I sped up to try to catch them and got to 5th gear and 30ish MPH before I was able to run over one of the smaller ones that was lagging behind the rest of the group. Based on that group I would say a slow one will max out at 30mph. The rest of the group was faster than that.

I adjusted the throttle on mine so limit is 20ish mph. Hopfully Gkids won't kill themselves.

OK I estimated from video 120# released from trap. 20 yds in 5 sec. About 12 fps or 8 mph.

Roughly 25-30 mph in an all out run according to my RZR when we used to run and gun them. The problem is how quickly they can change direction, they are like the dove of the ground.
That speed was in a wide open hay field that had been recently cut. When that field was very wet, they were lucky to get 10-12mph. When the field was grown up, they never seemed to run far, just short quick bursts. If they are in timber they look like they are going 100mph.

Flight for life and no concept of getting hurt. 4 legs means 4x the power and greater stability vs a human.
