Been a couple weeks since I had been up to the place so I loaded up the little girl and we headed out. Did some light ranching, mainly filling feeders, putting out cameras and mental lists of what I need to go get/bring up on the next trip. After we got all that done, I suggested we take a slow walk down to the meadow to see if we couldn’t scare us up a hog. We made a slow mosey down there but only saw a couple of deer. I asked her if she wanted to get into the bow blind and see if one came in and to my surprise, she said sure. Like most 10 year olds. She has the attention span of a gnat, so I didn’t know how long we would actually sit for. Set the feeder off and got settled in. A few does came in ( one heavily pregnant) and then left again after a few minutes. Some scrub jays kept us company when daughter starts saying she hears something. Now this kid has gotten extremely paranoid about getting got, so I don’t know if it’s legit or her imagination. Well after a few min this boar comes in. I tell her there is a big hog and when she sees it, starts to get really nervous, thinking she is not safe in the capsule blind. I mount the gun quickly, place the crosshair below the ear and at the shot his back legs fold up and he starts flopping. She is worried he’s gonna get up or attack at some point so I follow up with several insurance rounds to appease the small child Not gonna lie, this is a big pig for the area and has some of the biggest cutters I’ve personally taken. Ruger 10/22, Leupold 2x7 Rimfire and CCI 40 grain Mini-Mag
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Nice! I’ve killed more pigs with a .22 than anything else. Right in the brain and it’s like lightning struck them.

Nice! I've never used or seen a .22LR used on hogs, but I have seen a .22 Mag do some damage.

Very nicely done sir. Very nice cutters on that one.
Great times with the daughter even better. Get them out while they still want to hang out with you.

For whatever reason, the hogs in that area seem to be much more heavily Russian/Eurasian and less feral pig. I've taken a number with really long cutters.

For whatever reason, the hogs in that area seem to be much more heavily Russian/Eurasian and less feral pig. I've taken a number with really long cutters. We shoot a fair amount that are blonde with long snouts and a distinctive ridge across their backs. Then we get a few that are black and white and look more like a standard feral hog. This one had exceptionally long cutters, we just don’t get them with big tusks, even the big boars.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
