Family vacay 2024 took us NW flying into Seattle and adventuring out from there. Spent a few days in Port Angeles WA touring Olympic National Park, then caught the ferry over to. Victoria where we made the 4 hour drive to Tofino, the “Hawai of Canada”. Beautiful country and even better weather. The highlight of the trip was a 6 hour charter catching salmon and halibut followed by a little wildlife tour. This is an amazing part of the world if you ever get the chance to go.

Eagles, nasty creatures. Go a vid some place of one dive-bombing Gkid who was paddleboarding on Lake Estes.

Great trip and pictures, thanks for sharing cheers Bet that fresh Salmon and Halibut were delicious food

One February in the late 90's the wife and I flew into Portland to meet up with friends, hang out and snow ski. Started off at Timberline in Oregon, then the wife and I took off on our own.
From Portland took Interstate 5 to Olympia, then scenic drive Hwy 101 to Port Angeles, ferry to Victoria, then up to Nanaimo last ferry to Horseshoe Bay north of Vancouver city and on to Whistler ski resort, wow beautiful country.
Drove back through Vancouver, Seattle, Tacoma and last into MT Rainer national park. It was a great trip, love that country.

I wish we knew about Tofino, we were so close that it would have neat to stay at least a day there. If we are in that neck of the woods again, it will be a must go to destination!

We ate it a couple nights in a row it was so good. Made it home with 68lbs of portioned fish so plenty to eat on and will make great gifts too.
As far as Tofino, we literally booked tickets to Seattle and then started scrolling through a map to figure out just how far we could go and to see what adventures we could get into. Had never heard of it, just stumbled on it. It truly is a hidden gem, so much that Trudeau was there on a secret vacation while we were there. We saw a few black suvs and swat style boats in the bay. Locals were pretty hush hush about it.
I’ve been to Washington state several times, mostly Seattle and eastern Washington, but this area was a first. I’d like to go back to Mt Rainier national park some day. Truly a sight to see from a distance, so I can only imagine seeing up close

Looks like an awesome trip. We always talk about going to the NW for a trip but always end up somewhere else. Maybe I’ll push harder next time

You might be shocked to know that Tofino is a surfing destination. Yes, the water is cold and while some brave the temps in normal swimwear, us Texans and many others rented wet suits. Theres so much to explore here being next door to pacific national park where you’ll find rainforests and beaches, you can charter a boat or plane to fly you to hot springs for the day or a private alpine lake, wildlife tours by boat or plane, or find some hiking in higher elevations. The town is small but had plenty of places to dine and a small grocery store although we did find a Walmart about and hour or two prior to driving into Tofino. This is a great place to escape the heat, and some of the growing crowds at national parks and popular beaches, and it’s Canada, so it’s fairly simple to cross into and people speak English for the most part. I will say buying gas and driving in kilometers will drive a man crazy though. 1.77 per liter made it around $7/gallon for gas. We used a credit card for everything and while it is more expensive for food and gas, you know you get about 30% back based on conversion rates.
I’d go back again in a heartbeat

Some quick adds:
Temps ranged from 45-71. Typically ran from 55-65 daily.
We rented a car in Seattle and had no problems taking it on the ferry to Canada (Victoria).
Bringing fish back was a non issue. A local processor vacuum sealed, flash froze and packaged for our return in 50lbs increments which stayed frozen during our 40 hour return. We stayed in Victoria one night on the way back by design.
Wildlife included orcas, whales, bear, black tail deer, porpoise, seals, otters, a few snakes, birds of all kinds, and several other creatures.
Things we did- hiking, fishing, surfing, tide pool exploring at low tide, and ate lots of ice cream.
Huge tree- we thought they were sequoias, but they were actually Sitka Spruce, yellow and red cedar, and hemlock.
Some well over 200 ft, 40+ ft in circumference and a few documented around 800 years old.

Been to Rainier several times. Go in the late spring for waterfalls or fall for color. Really not a bad time to see it…

Well worth the trip

You can ferry over to Victoria from there, but if I’m being honest, that place is headed down hill. Still neat to see but lots of evidence of drugs and homeless. Very similar to the state of Seattle
