I dont know about you guys but I am excited for the Tesla Pi to come out and I will jump on one when they come available. The ability to have starlink access and full internet anywhere in the world is huge. Now those far out areas and hunting spots that get no cell service are no problem anymore.
This is going to be huge for overlanders, hunters, backpackers and outdoorsman in general.
Looks like the price is about $1000 and you just hook it up to your current carrier.
Thank you Elon!
Let's go DOGE!!!!!

I'll probably be dead before they release it. Starlink is overwhelmed in urban areas. Mu does use some sort of relay rig for starlink in foreign places. Converts from sat to cell coverage.

We used a mobile wifi in Costa Rica.
Worked really well.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

If you had a mobile wifi plan and it worked really well, then you were very lucky. Mobile wifi requires a cellular plan and Costa Rica has terrible cellular coverage away from major roads and cities. 3G Coverage ![[Linked Image]](https://costa-rica-guide.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/3G-cell-phone-coverage.jpg) 4G Coverage ![[Linked Image]](https://costa-rica-guide.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/4G-cell-phone-coverage.jpg)

Like a mobile router. Started with a “C”but can’t remember the name.

Understood, but the mobile wifi has to get its signal from somewhere. You either get it from satellite or you get it from cellular.

Understood, but the mobile wifi has to get its signal from somewhere. You either get it from satellite or you get it from cellular. Yup. That seems the main issue to me. I used to have satellite TV and getting the signal was not a simple process. They needed a line of sight signal and, even with that, the signal was affected by heavy rain and storms. Starlink on a phone will have the same problems only without an automatic tracking antenna and lots of power to amplify the signal. Being in the woods would, I think, vastly weaken the signal. A phone with both Starlink and cellular service seems the best but would be expensive to say the least. However... Elon Musk is a real smart guy. He certainly has thought thru all these muddy waters already. I hope he pulls this off. Tough nut.
"Group think" is not thinking. It is the lack of independent thought. It is a cancer of the mind.

Starlink on a phone will have the same problems only without an automatic tracking antenna and lots of power to amplify the signal. You are right. Musk is a smart guy. He is getting around the tracking issue by putting seemingly countless satellites in the sky so that connectivity is maintained. As of June of this year, he had over 6200 Starlink satellites in orbit. They aren't geostationary, but are in a lower orbit. You get handed off from satellite to satellite as they pass over, just like you would if you were driving your car and go from cell tower to cell tower. You don't normally notice when you change towers and you don't notice when you change satellites. However, if you want to drive around with your Starlink phone or go out cruising on a ship and use it, the price is prohibitively expensive to use.

According to what I am seeing this will be the same cost as a regular smartphone as you will use your own cell service. So no extra costs involved. Yes line of site will have to be accounted for and i am not sure if switching satellites will cause you to lose your phone connection. But no cell service is needed if you have internet in theory. Barring you are in a cave or tstorm or in a lead box. Lets see how this theory goes in to play. Remember this will be the first year of its release so in 10 years who knows how good it will be. I am expecting this to be a game changer for anyone that wants to go out of cell range without any extra costs or sat phones or other costly connecting devices.
Let's go DOGE!!!!!

Starlink is overwhelmed in urban areas. That statement may be outdated based on the existing and growing number of satellites. Plus Starlink generally isn't for urban areas where high speed line connections are available.

i am not sure if switching satellites will cause you to lose your phone connection. I'm on Starlink right now. At any given time I have about 7 to 8 satellites my antenna is connecting to. I don't lose internet, VPN, Teams meetings or voice coms (WiFi calling via cellphone when needed). The handoff from satellite to satellite is pretty amazing.

I guess the MOST important question... Can we STOP the CRIMINAL cell phone companies from automatically (on their whim) uploading bloatware that slows down your phone to the point that it is useless, and you feel you "have to" go out and buy a new phone? Can Elon actually STOP these app developers from ruining perfectly good cell phones? I just LOVE it when they download the latest "down-dates"-and all of the settings on your phone are randomly changed.. Your text layout-POOF! GONE! The button you use for talk to text? Let's a tiny little symbol WAY DOWN IN THE LEFT CORNER where most cell phone protectors/covers are actually covering it up so you can't find it, and if you do find it, your finger certainly can't reach down in that crevice to press it... I also love it when I turn off the "Amber Alerts" and then they JACK MY PHONE ILLEGALLY and turn it back on.. You know those alerts always come at 3AM in the morning and they wake the entire house up... Nice... Can ELON give us that phone that STOPS these IDIOTS from rendering our expensive hand held mobile devices from being as useful as a rock? That's all I care about. I DO NOT want ANY company going into my phone and altering ANYTHING without my permission... That's what I want.. That's what I would pay for. In fact, if someone tries to "down-date" my phone I want a virus to be automatically returned to whatever company, or whoever sent the BLOAT-TRASH, such that their system is compromised and taken off-line.. Can Elon do that for me? I'd pay him well. I want a phone that NEVER, EVER, changes its own volume settings.. I want a phone that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES will it unlock itself in my pocket and start sending weird text messages out, or deleting contacts from my phone, or opening Facebook and many other apps.... THAT is the GOLDEN PHONE I'm in search of... I want a phone that I can lock, put in my pocket, jump up and down 5 times, and when I take it out of my pocket, it has not called my best friend from high school (butt-dialed from a FRONT pocket)... as my current phone does EVERY TIME I move.. I've yet to see a phone that can do these crazy things I speak of.. I have faith though that if it can be done, Elon can do it, and I'm rooting for him. The DAY Elon comes out with a phone that will work in my over-seas travels.. That very DAY, I will fire AT&T and NEVER look back. I just pray these other things I'm asking for are a possibility as well. I don't want my "location" on at all times.. I don't want companies tracking my every move, and monitoring my every conversation, and then selling that data to whatever nefarious companies that they are currently selling it to, nor do I want to be marketed to based on eavesdropped conversations that my phone is listening in on... F ALL OF THAT... ELON.. PLEASE... PLEASE.. give us our "freedom" back, and a phone that works world wide... I know.. It's like asking for the winning lottery numbers, but I have high ambitions. Once I get my new Musk phone I will take great pride and joy in launching a 32 grain Ruger 204 bullet at 4000+ fps right through the screen of my Sam-JUNK-Sung conversation monitoring china data feeding S23 and post it here as proof, and entertainment, that I have followed through with my promise. I can't wait to pull the trigger... good bye Sam-JUNK... Good bye AT&T.. Hello FREEDOM!
A hog is nothing more than a bullet receptacle.

I may have missed it, but would this sat phone be something you would buy as a second phone for specific uses, or would it replace my current phone and do everything it currently does? If it would be a replacement, I would definitely be interested in giving it a shot.
