So would you take'em a year early because of the cool asymmetry and the drop? Or do you risk waiting a year so that he's bigger overall but may not have such an interesting look? 1 buck county and there are several larger deer to choose from. P.S. Obviously making the assumption that all the deer on camera now will be the deer 20yds away come bow season. P.P.S. Sorry for the tilted photo. Damn cattle love that t-post for scratching.

Have been in this scenario before and have shot and passed. I’m more in the camp of passing now especially if there are other targets

I think that's going to be an individual call. I'm on a mission to get a nice buck with a drop or double drops since I have never killed one, so I would pass on a larger symmetrical buck if given the option.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

Pass.
Killing an immature deer with a drop just to say I killed one with a drop has never held any appeal for me.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I’ve shot a few deer because of an antler trait, otherwise would t have shot him. Was mostly as a youngster. I have regretted all but one.
Had that deers twin at my place last year and would have shot him given the opportunity, he was mature. He broke the sideways tine off shortly after season opener. I would have still shot him but he never showed in light.

The unusual rack is all I hunt for which could include the biggest rack,,,only unusual racks for me. I go 3 to 4 years looking for the right one.

It just depends if a particular buck sings to me that season and where I am hunting. I shot a young non typical long ago during a memorable hunt while hunting with a close friend and had it mounted. Still one of my favorites. I passed a drop tine at least three times a couple years ago that I think would have been fantastic if allowed to live one more year. Unfortunately within a week a contact on a neighboring property texted me a picture of it on the ground bragging about it.

a dead deer has never grown another inch of horn - to me he has potential to be really nice so I would pass till next year

Especially if they’re are larger bucks out there To me, love just love being out there watching mother nature at her finest is what it is all about. Hunting on a 40 acre acre parcel I have passed on many nice bucks hoping they reach their full potential. Yep you hope that your neighbors are somewhat like minded, but as Alan Jackson crooned about "But here in the real world!!! If you really like it take, but don't take it because your scared your neighbor might, otherwise the odds of you or your family having an opportunity of a really nice buck are slim to none!

If you kill him, you know he is dead. If you pass, he may make it and he may not.

Personally, I'd pass as I'm at the stage of looking for mature and also post prime bucks. Have passed several last few years that members say I'm crazy for letting walk and that's why I don't ask for others opinions. Eyes of a trophy are in the beholder.

That's a tough call! If the cool asymmetry and unique drop are really appealing and you think they’ll make for a memorable trophy, it might be worth considering taking him this year. Sometimes, a distinctive feature can be a once-in-a-lifetime find. On the other hand, if you're more interested in overall size and the chance to have a bigger buck with a more classic look, waiting another year could be the way to go.Given that you have several larger deer to choose from, weighing the uniqueness of this buck against the potential for a bigger, more symmetrical trophy next year is key. If you’re set on the unique look, don’t let the opportunity slip away. But if you’re aiming for size and a more traditional rack, patience might be your best bet. Either way, you’ll have a great story to tell
