I put out a feeder last week. A group of about 8 does and a spike have been showing up. No mature bucks. Will the bucks take longer to come or not come until the rut when they can breed the does. Also a 250lb hog has been daylighting at the feeder, would it scare the deer away if I shot him while deer where present?

1. Shoot the pig.
2. Shoot all pigs.
3. Sometimes big bucks will not hit feeders at all. Sometimes they will. When the rut comes, the more does you have the better, as the Bucks will be seeking out the does.

Spot on. If that pig is really 250, about the only chance you have of getting him is bushwhacking him at a feeder. They don't get big by being dumb and going in a trap. Also, if he decides he wants a bit more corn, he's big enough to just bump your feeder over just to see what happens. He needs to be disappeared!

Agree with SHOOT the pig. The deer with appreciate it. They don't like eating with pigs, but most people don't either.

I've never shot or seen a mature buck at my feeder, and I've killed some good ones in the area. The last two really big bucks I've shot were never seen live (until I shot them) or on camera. It's all about the rut. Get the does in the habit of coming around, cruising bucks will show up. When you start seeing lone yearlings, does that you've been seeing with two yearlings now with one or none, young bucks you've never seen before start coming around for a few minutes......then you see that lone doe on a fast walk, click the safety off. Somethings behind her.

Shoot the pig and haul him out of there, way out of there. Coyotes will feed on the carcass and their presence will deter does, especially this time of the year.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I have deer and hogs at one feeder. They apparently have different meal times. As of 45 minutes ago, the hog is dead and moved off. So let’s see if the deer show up more often.

And let me mention again that the advice from Hogflyer to put out sweet feed for horses and mules is really working great. The deer seem to love that stuff. Tractor Supply carries it. The deer are happy and the wife is happy. Money well spent.

Shoot the pig, but it’s a temporary solution to a soon to be growing problem. Start setting money a side to build a large pen around your feeder. More Piglets are coming….

You've got that right. Been in the Harper area for 14 years and had 12 wonderful years without one dam hog! Two years ago they got started and this year are a real pain. We have a very large deer population so no grain left on ground after dark but they're brave enough to show up in daylight and chase off the deer. We kill a lot of them but live 3 hours away so time is limited. Don't know if the deer will adjust some or not. On my own ranches in Lavaca and Gonzales counties the deer will actually compete with them at the feeders but up there the deer haven't gotten used to them and will run off if one piglet shows up. It's a long drive to the Texas Panhandle but I may start hunting whitetail up there. Already hunt mule deer and pronghorn there and haven't seen any hogs YET.
