There’s a big old boar hanging out at my feeder. He will NOT go in the dang trap. Regular corn didn’t work. Apple flavored corn didn’t work, to my surprise. Added Hog Wild attractant today. Don’t expect it to work. So…this has been discussed often, but tomorrow I’ll get some strawberry flavored jello and try that. What ya got to suggest that you promise will work? I want this big guy. Help me out, and I’ll dedicate it to you. I’ll even sing it…”This pigs for youuuu”.

Try anise and/or powdered peanut butter. 'Got both ideas off here. But nothing's a sure thing with a trap wise boar.

I couldn't find any at HEB, but Walmart had it. My initial redneck research makes it look like it's crack to deer, so I hope deer can't get in your trap. This is where rooter door traps really shine. I also use the Hog Wild attractant. I throw everything in the toolbox at 'em, but anise and that attractant are expensive. A jar of powdered peanut butter was just a tad over 10 bucks, if I remember correctly.

I was gonna buy some powdered peanut butter, but the wife said she had some already. But she didn’t. The dang hog seems to have made the trap location his summer home - shade, food, and water. But he won’t go in the trap. I think the hog is taunting me.

I’ll order some. I want this big rascal. Don’t think he’s 250# like the last one, but he looks substantial.

Why do you want to trap him? Why don't you just shoot him?

I’d love to shoot him…in October. Too dang hot right now. I have night vision, but I don’t hate the hog enough to suffer in a hot blind. If and when I do trap him, he’ll fall to my 9422, as so many others have.

That reminds me to order the powdered peanut butter.

Just sit in a chair in the shade and wait for it.

Take a 5gallon bucket and fill it about 3/4 with deer corn, fill it with water to the corn line, dump 2lbs of sugar, 10 packets of cherry koolaid, 10 packets of yeast, and put the lid on with a vent tube or just leave it a little loose so the CO2 can escape. Let it ferment for a few days to a week.

You should now have cherry flavored sour mash. Hogs go crazy for it.

When I dump it out near our feeder, a huge group of hogs will stay there until its gone. Sometimes it takes a few days for them to clean it all up.

I will mix some of that up right away. I need something that will bring a certain big hog to my yard feeder and keep him there for a bit at night. Hopefully I can time my pee breaks to his feeding times.

my "secret recipe" is about 20lbs of corn in a 5 gallon bucket.. saturate in the cheapest beer you can find.. mix in a can of cherry koolaid.. put the lid on it and let it sit for 3-5 days...

I havent used it for trapping.. but Ive found it to be pretty effective for just trying to bring them into the kill zone around my feeders..

when I dont have the time or desire to mix up a batch of that, I usually just pick up a gallon of "pig out" from Cabelas... the scent isnt quite as strong as the homemade stuff.. but I've still had a lot of success with it.. when using it, I typically just set the feeder off 3-4 times just before dark... put about 1/2 of the pig out all around the area.. and then go sit and wait.. that almost always does the trick..

Beer or yeast is the ticket.

If you want to keep them around in one spot for a while, drop 3-4 tractor buckets of dirt there, spread some corn on top and mix it in with a rake and shovel. They will snort around in it for hours to get every kernel.
