Anyone know max loads/bullet weights for the CVA Scout stainless takedown?
I would imagine that is a pretty stout action and could take up to "Marlin levergun only loads", but I would check with CVA to ask them first. Also, that is a pretty light rifle. Marlin loads in that light of a rifle would be a handful for sure.
I’ve been crakn factory loads, different bullet weights. 1” barrel profile. I’ve always been a .30 cal hunter reloader, wanted to try the other legendary cartridge for a while.
Marlin loads in the Marlin are plenty of recoil. In the lighter CVA would be unpleasant. Load a few at standard pressure, Marlin and in the middle. See what you like. I only have been shooting 405 cast and jacketed.
Considering they chamber the same rifle in 243 and 35 Whelen plus other models of the single shot in 6.5 Creedmoor the Marlin loads should be no problem even with the larger case and case head.
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch
Between the 444 and 35 whelen chamberings, you should be good at least up to about 40000 psi. That said, have you actually fired a 400 grain bullet at 1700 fps out of that rifle? Buffalo were wiped off the plains with bullets moving about 1200 fps.
IMO if you're hunting Texas deer and swine you can do fine with a 300-350 gr projectile or a 400 some odd if you want. You don't have to have some big something flying at 3000 to kill an animal. Done it plenty of times with 30/30 150gr, arrows, patched round balls with black powder, 44 magnum rifles, 357 mag rifles, a 357 max rifle, plain 308w 150gr, 243w, etc. Don't need any pointy anything unless you're trying to reach way way out If you disable the pumphouse of an animal, it'll die and it's yours Good Luck
