Hey guys, long time listener first time caller here- Im out of Fort Worth and have been getting into Hogs for the last year or so and want to gear up for this fall. Last year I did a few blind hunts with very minimal luck, mostly caused by my lack of HOG knowledge and not having a steady reliable place to hunt. Im recently married and looking to get my 13 year old stepson out this year and don't want to have as many dry holes as before. Without owning property or having any close friends/relatives who do, what is the best way to go about finding decent land to hunt on? Im a FFL/SOT and have all the weapon, night vision and thermal capabilities to hunt day or night. What do y'all think about the public land, CADDO or otherwise?

welcome ta texasHF.

Been back in MN. for several years now..
If remember right, (would check the
public hunting land on this forum),
for better info. Caddo lake isn't that big.
Think thars Bois-d-arc a little North of Ft Worth.
Not sure type weapons,

Lived around Tyler TX hunted the OSBWMA.
It was deer/hogs archery only, has/had gun draw.
Squirrel/hog shotgun, rim fire, & mussleloader.
& a Jan-end of March any legal means hog hunt.
No night hunts. It is low land, Does flood.
Son & i hunted it with water, up ta knee deep, hiting high areas.
But can hit creek beds over your head. Always found hogs.
Met up with several guys from Ft Worth, & hunted with them some.

White Oak WMA is a good place also.
Check out the Public Hunting on this forum.
Better & more up dated info.
Sniper John he's a mod on here, could give ya better info.

Best wishs.

I think public land would be a great place to teach your kid about the ins and outs of hunting.

1. Get you an APH license form TPWD and get after it. Check out the Public hunting lands booklet and that will let you know where you can hunt hogs. but there are a few places not in the booklet I have heard run by other govt entities. I am in Houston so I cant help you on the places near you but I am sure someone can chime in from North Texas. Colt always has good advice once you learn his language that is. lol

2. Sign him up for the youth hunts in the Texas Drawn hunts also. That is going on now so dont delay. Plenty of hunting opportunities especially for youths in those lottery hunts.

good luck

Just take him turkey hunting and you'll run into hogs every single time! Hogs all over caddo and up along red river on corp lands. I can't go out and NOT run into them. Get the public hunting lands book like bigfoot said above (will get one if you buy the $48 public hunting license) and download the corp of engineers public hunting lands map. Pig sign is easy to see. Set up on fresh sign/trails/water and you'll get hogs.

eeks333 it been awhile since hunted OSBWMA,
did they quit doing the Jan-end March any legal means hog hunts ?

Thought the WOWMA also had a rifle hog hunt also.

The AK's & AR's made a difference on hogs.
