Going out to my land next week and possibly kill an Axis for some sausage and meat. Question is how long after kill does animal need to be quartered and cleaned in the heat? Temps more than likely going to be 100+. Will to try to kill early in morning or late evening so its little cooler however sometimes dont work out that way. Thank you in advance

Not much leeway in this kinda heat, I would gut it and ice it down quickly as possible…

All I know is we had an extremely warm day (easily above 90) in late February one year. Got a nilgai down and didn't get it on ice quickly. First one that tasted like crap. Ended up throwing hundreds of pounds of processed meat away. What a waste. Won't do that again.

Are you breaking it down yourself, or gutting and taking it to a processor? Either way, move steady, and smooth, but not so fast you're asking for an accident. I have a scar on my left thumb from gutting an axis, in the heat, with a new, unfamiliar knife. 'Processor said they call it "Hurry up and die." Get that body cavity clean and opened up wide asap. Frozen ice jugs in the cavity, if you can't immediately quarter it and get the quarters on ice. And...

ta HF. Warmer the weather, fast we on ice. Gutting will help with cooling down temps. Son & i went on a hog hunt, warm temps. We went up stream with jon boat. Little 10 horse Half way on river ta WMA, remembered, no ice. Adapt, over come, & improvise. Figured worry about chilling IF we got hog. We ended up with two hogs. Had back packs with. Always carry trash bags. Got back ta boat. Took trash bags, filled em with, river water. & stuffed in cavity of hogs, chill meat down. Temps weren't neer the triple digit, but the cool river water helped till we got back ta house. Washed the meat good. en & chillen. Best wish's.

In that kind of heat. Immediately. Have a can of black pepper handy while you are skinning and quartering or deboning. Shake some on the open cavity and meat while you are working on it and it will help keep the flys from lighting on it and trying to lay eggs.

I have killed them when it was 100+ without any problem. Start with a big ice chest with plenty of ice, get it field dressed quickly, fill the chest and gut with ice keeping so that is hele in place. That will cool it quickly. Killed a Fallow one day that it was 107 degrees in August did that and by the time got to the skinning rack half hour later it was cool on the outside even at the shoulders and hams. Skinned it quartered and iced down no problem with the meat quality. Axis was about 100 degrees, killed and gutted there then 30 minutes later was skinning it then quartered and that was fantastic eating, didn't ice it down but just handled it quickly.
I will take an Axis hunt any time I can get one, heat or not.
Loose some meat but I like a CNS shot on critters when it is hot since no time wasted looking for them, otherwise I generally just punch them through the lungs to save meat.

Have a cooler full of ice ready to go in your truck and don’t park too far. Shoot, if DRT gut and retrieve truck with cavity draining. Get truck and ice and quarter put right into ice. If it runs and don’t see, get truck and ice then retrieve deer and gut and quarter. Have done this with red deer in 90-100 degree heat without issue, key is parking close to where you are hunting if it’s hot out. The sooner it’s on ice the better.

As said above, gut it quick and fill the body cavity with ice. It's worked for me in 100+ degree heat.
That said, I just don't like messing with / worrying about it. Would rather shoot them when it's not hot as hell.

Agree with all above. My brother and I were hunting one summer and he shot an axis doe. He asked how long till he needed to clean it. I said...NOW
Hunt WITH your kids... NOT for them

Shoot, track, find, gut, ice the cavity. Then you can go somewhere and hang, skin, quarter.
It was over 90° when I shot my Axis buck. It is an all stop situation once the animal is down and recovered. It's a race against the clock and the flies.
