I'm sure there is a thread but I'm not finding it. Want to use a tote to provide water in feed pen. I was given a standard white/cage tote that has ball valve.
Looking for instructions and advice how to set up for drip/float water in pen (valve extension, drip or floats used, how do you do your set up? Thanks in advance for the help

get the deeper style of this, hook tote up to hole for faucet. water seeks it's own level so you can set the tote next to the trough and as it empties it will pull in water from the tote. evaporation is gonna get a lot of it.

you can set the tote up just a bit higher than the intake on the trough so it will empty, 2" should do it (2x6's laid flat)

best I can come up with

Thanks, I've got trough part covered with a shallow black 1/2 cut lengthwise barrel that has flat bottom. I plan to bury it about 1/2 down and surround with rocks. I just need to figure out connection extension from IBC tote and thinking stainless hose to float in trough. Probably set tote on pallet. No shade around pen. Ideas on building cover over tote and catch rain diverting into tote?

The tote valve will likely be a 2" evertite/camlock style. You can use a camlock or threaded PVC , tho the 2" valve threads are likely not wide. Transition to male garden hose fittings on both ends. Run a section on hose between them with both hose ends female. Put a hosebib on the $10 trough float. Connect. Blacken the tote or it will grow plenty of algae. Been using this over 15 years.

Here's a simple gravity feed setup. Float valve in the pan controls the flow. One small pool chlorine tablet at each filling keeps the algae in check.

I have the inexpensive float from tractor supply, a 2 gallon “bowl” and used a braided washer machine hose.
