Heard a bar of soap will repel them.

Some guy told me an ear tag for cows has repellent as well.

Who knows?

Looking for a simple solution to keep spiders out of my box.

When I have had problems with weevils getting in my feeder while feeding year round with corn, I have used mothballs in a mesh bag hanging under my feeder lid to prevent it. I don't think the naphthalene gassing off actually kills anything in the barrel, but it does repel the bugs from making a home in it. I don't see why it would not also work inside a feeder box to repel spiders.

Demon WP mix in a pump-up sprayer. Light spray inside the box then spray the feeder lid lastly spray the inside of your stand and you will not have any bugs.

I put pest strips in my blind at first of the season. Gitcha one and cut an appropriate size piece off it to fit your application. I never have any bugs in my blind, ever.
