Had a little gap in work yesterday evening so I went out to the ranch to see if the hogs would cooperate. Since my thermal took a dump I haven't been hunting much at night and it was a fairly nice afternoon temperature-wise. I knew I was leaving at dark so I decided to take the shotgun and get up in one of the ladder stands. Several does, turkeys, and a raccoon came in and stayed a while then left. Around 8 the first one showed up- came out from the creek woods behind me and passed underneath the tree. I shot him at 25 yards and down he went. 30 minutes later another one came out from the same direction and I shot him before he could get to the other one- at 10 yards. Nice evening and 2 boars down- 12 gauge #1 buck in the neck works pretty good up close. First pic is the first hog, second pic they're both done and last pic is up close.

Good work.

I have a stand very close to a feeder on my property where pistol or shotgun are perfect.

I also use #1 buckshot not double 00.

12 ga.... 3" magnum load.... is packing 24 buckshot.

Aimed at the center of the neck puts them down right there.

Good job!
Hunting pigs from a tree stand with a shotgun is fun. It is how I like to hunt them.
It can get pretty exciting when a big sounder comes in all at once, you have to be quick to get a few.

^^^^^^

Absolutely!

Its usually and one and done deal where I am because the bait site is just 20 yds away from thick cover. But depending on how they run at the first shot (usually all directions) I might get off a second shot. Then once in awhile....a group of piglets or shoats will 'bunch up' and that presents a shot at multiples.

Don’t have the pictures anymore but I have smoked a lot of hogs with dixie triball buckshot. I shoot a rem 870 with a 24” on police special w/a .680 restriction choke. Shoots a 2” pattern @ 50 yards and gets meat on both ends

Don't know where I'm goin but I'm makin good time

Was duck hunting out at Whitney a couple years ago and heard hogs squealing and raising heck behind me. Sneaked back into the woods a bit and sat down on a high spot. Two hogs walked by me and I shot both with #2 steel aiming at their necks. First one was walking and the second was running. Both were under 20 yards. That steel shot penetrated pretty good I thought. They changed the rules to where you can't do that anymore?
