Wife and I bought a 30' bumper pull travel trailer last fall. It's been great going on road trips. Headed back down to Fredericksburg one of our favorite destinations in two weeks for a long weekend. Just a wonderful town to visit with so much to see and do. We've never gone in summer so it will be interesting. My wife loves visiting different wineries on each trip.
Distance is not the issue, but the winds can make it interesting!

Great Burger at Alamo Springs Cafe, near the railroad tunnel.

I always like to go to Hondo’s on Main. Great messy burgers and fries and stuffed Jalapeños. And the Old German Bakery and Restaurant has about as good a breakfast as I can remember getting anywhere. And then there’s The Pie Place, just one street off Main. Wife loves that place.
If you go to Alamo Springs for a burger, it’s a short walk to the smallest state park in Texas, The Old Tunnel SP. In the early evening the bats come out of the old railroad tunnel.
Our favorite winery these days is Signor. It used to be Grape Creek till they decided that if you aren’t a wine club member, you aren’t very welcome. Becker Vineyards is a nice place. Great covered patio and lots of good cheeses.

German bakery is always a must for breakfast with their smoked pork chops.
August Es was good.
Getting away from town.
Alamo springs as mentioned. They’ve been popular since they landed on Texas monthly’s cover 10+ years ago.
Hilltop cafe. Great food. Make reservations. It’s not fancy just popular
I’ve heard good things about doss general store but haven’t made it there yet.

Smallest state park in Texas is actually in Acton, TX near Granbury. It is the gravesite of Davy Crockett’s wife.

I read about Crockett’s wife’s grave after I had read that Old Tunnel was the smallest. Maybe there’s some reason they both were called that.

Hondo's is outstanding. It seems each time I pass through on a business trip it's Monday or Tuesday and they're closed. If that's the case I go to Burger Burger, they have outstanding burgers and onion rings. Auslander German restaurant is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants when I'm in town. There food is just outstanding! For breakfast, it hard to beat Texas Sunrise cafe.
I've never tried Alamo Springs, I've made a note and will give that a try on my next trip.

The catfish place on the west end of town isn’t bad.

Crossroads Saloon is my favorite restaurant there. Really good food and a good wine list. They have an awesome bar as well for drinks before or after dinner.
August E's is great as well. I always get the Mixed Grill with Red Deer, Quail, and Wild Boar Sausage. Outstanding meal.
August E's is probably better food, but I like the location and vibe of Crossroads Saloon better.

Can vouch for Alamo Springs after going out of our way for it based on recommendations from right here on the THF.
