Walking around camp working on my cabins and stepped right over this little dude. I decided not to wear my snake boots this morning ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/06/full-8588-422473-img_7609.jpeg) , but have them on now.

I’m guess, luckily, you didn’t get bitten? Exterminated, or relocated?

My son and I walked over 4 one morning after a duck hunt in November. It was on the coast and we weren't sure what that sound was until we saw the first one then it was one of the most hair raising experiences I've ever had, it was on a NWR and couldn't do anything to them. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/06/full-4739-422660-hidingsnake.jpg)

Came close to this guy Sunday afternoon. He made the mistake of giving me 10 seconds to retrieve a pistol from the truck and come back. About 30". ![[Linked Image]](https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53784000497_a159e771c6_z.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53785151228_3e8469c03e_n.jpg)

Buddy of mine and I were at our lease walking down a trail to check a feeder. He was in front of me.
Coiled up in the trail was a 5 footer sunning - my buddy never saw him and stepped on him - here I come right behind him and the snake tries to strike me - I jumped back and he missed my leg by a few inches - he tried striking me two more times. It happened so fast that I was not sure if he had hit me or not - thanks goodness he missed. I had to go change my underwear -
You can't fix stupid

Unfortunate, any snake will quickly retreat if given the chance. Rattlesnakes are no exception. No need to kill the snake for being in it's natural environment.

I also agree it gives some peace of mind that it is one less chance on the little ones getting bitten.

Had a friend got bit by a 12'' sitting o rocky bank on clear fork of Brazos years ago. Snake was under a small flat rock about the size of a cow patty. He put his hand down next to rock and got nailed, spent 3 days in hospital. His 5 year old daughter was on other side of the rock.Lucky it was him instead of her. Had a buddy that lost his German short hair bird dog 3 weeks ago on north edge of Breckenridge. Let the bull snakes and racers take care of the rodents I kill every rattler and copper head I can.
