So I hunt turkeys for a week and a half at my place in Dickens county. Unfortunately I have no resident birds as I lack any roost trees. So I call at the edges of my property and on some agreeable neighbors places. Heard a few and even had a couple just out of range and couldn't differentiate sex,

Getting ready to head home the next day but thought I'd call in a couple coyotes just before sun down.

I'm not in my blind 10 minutes and I hear 2 toms gobbling in my neighbors property.

To my surprise these crazy birds appear to be coming in my direction. I have no calls or any turkey related paraphernalia. Just my night vision AR.

They cross into my property about 200 yds south and walk down my dirt road to my location.

As I have time to prepare when the largest is about 50 yds away I fill my tag.

This is not the first time all my efforts to harvest a specific animal has been met with disappointment, however, for some inexplicable reason I am blessed with success and it has nothing to do with my prowess as a hunter or outdoorsman.

He turned out to be the largest Rio Grande I have ever harvested with a 10" bird.

Always better to be lucky then good.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

The most major factor of success in hunting it being in the woods/field. If you aren't out hunting, you aren't going to kill anything.

If your plan is for ten years, plant trees.
If your plan is for one hundred years, educate children."

When luck meets preparation, that's when you will see your most success. Plan and prepare, and be ready to adapt to whatever you encounter.

One of my more memorable deer I've taken was the result of a 10 pt buck that I flushed while dragging a dead hog out of the middle of the road. Turned into a 2-hour stalk and great story.

I give luck a chance by spending as much time hunting as I can.

He who is the most prepared generally benefits from the most luck.

I’d rather crush the preparation then just rely on luck, but when you have both it’s it’s a beautiful memory and experience

I definitely put in the work scouting and time in the field. Time on the rifle all year long as well. But then, luck has been in play on the two biggest bucks I've ever killed. Had I not been scanning exactly where they first came into the kill zone I may not have had the opportunity. I did have does give me a heads up a bit in advance.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

100%
I can think back on most good bucks I ever killed and this holds true. I always try to overly "crush the preparation" and then when I get a little luck Im more able to close the deal. Often luck only gives a sliver of an opening before a whitetails preparation/instincts gets him outa harms way.
