The key word is if we are in a liberal season in 25/26. There is a good chance mallard numbers drop below 5mill this spring that would put us in a moderate or restrictive season framework for 25/26. We'll see what bpop numbers look like in mid to late august.

I guess it sounds good to today’s average hunter that doesn’t pay attention to the conservation aspect of their sport. If what they say about duck counts and season/bag limits is true, you don’t have to worry about taking 3 pintails. You’ll need to be worrying about what to do with your free time when you have a 40 day season with a 4 bird limit

![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/xdSKQDYw/Screenshot-20240521-182125-Instagram.jpg) Ya I don't really know what to think of it. I have no idea how they set species specific limits. Per the counts above.... There is 1.89million widgeon, but you can shoot 6 of them. There are 2.56million gadwall, but you can shoot 6 of them. There are 2.5million GWT, but you can shoot 6 of them. There are 2.859million shovelers, but you can shoot 6 of them There are 2.219million pintail, but you can only shoot 1, possible 3 with the new regulation. There are .931million red heads and you can shoot 2 of them. There are .619millions canvasbacks, and you can shoot 2 of them. There are 3.519 million bluebill, but you can only shoot 1 of them. Doesn't make alot of sense to me how they come up with the bag limits.

A couple of factors effect that, but in my opinion I’d say nesting practices play a big part. Pintail numbers are relatively what 6 duck numbers are, but they are sensitive to their nesting practices. Nest longer distances from water that get disked, mowed, or aren’t great to begin with. Whereas the others like mallards can and will nest in grass, tree roots, or build a nest on a concrete sidewalk. In my own personal band collection, I concur that the average bird in the pintail population is a lot older than the other species. A lot of the six bird species actually aren’t harvested as heavily as you would think either.

It will be nice. On my pond that’s pretty much all I got this year. (1) duck was kind of a bummer. I think they should evaluate dates and push everything back about 3 weeks. It’s just not getting cold as early these days.
