Stompy, can you get native sun flowers to take by just broadcasting the seed? Yes, they are typically planted in late fall. Disc the field, broadcast seed at about 5 pounds per acre, then drag the field. Turner Seed here in Breckenridge sells them by the pound, and they're expensive. But once you get a decent stand of sunflowers, you'll never have to plant them again. Just turn the dirt in December or January and drag. They don't do that well in sandy soil.
