I was curious as to what the masses think the most devastating 308 bullet is on hogs? I know you can be very successful using a 22LR with excellent shot placement. I just wanted to know what 308 bullets or ammunition (handloaded or factory) y'all have found that can be forgiving on runners and just devastates hogs. I just got an Aero Solus 308 and it shoots really well with 178 ELD-X. I'm sure ELD-X will work just fine but I would love to hear what others use.

Norma white tail 150 gr
Federal Fusion 150 gr
Sierra game changer tipped 165 gr
Sellier and Belot SPCe 159 gr
These all work good and you can find 3 out of 4 for less than $ 34 per box , which If you’re hunting a lot will save you money on runners.

Whatever I have on hand for any given 308. I’ve shot them with SMK, SGK, SST, TSX, cheap Winchester ammo and many others I can’t think of off the top of my head.

I prefer to center punch 'em two at a time with the good ol' Greenbox 180 gr Core-Lokts.

That is what I figured for the 308. Seems the round in general packs enough punch and isn't that big of a concern of what bullet to use. With my 223 I use 75gr or 77gr (BTHP or OTM) and that seems to work the best for me. My 300BO has been great with 110gr V-Max and 243 95gr SST work fantastically.

2 guys I hunt with have had excellent success with 16" barrels and factory 150gr SST's. It typically puts hogs down (inside 100 yards) without the need for a CNS shot. Of course nothing is 100% with hogs.
"Group think" is not thinking. It is the lack of independent thought. It is a cancer of the mind.

SST's
Years of success with this bullet on hogs from 50-400 yards. They drop immediately.

Whichever bullet you have in your 308!!! I have killed as many hogs with Academy Monarch 308 PS bullets as I have with any other bullet. (I run Monarch's in my AR10.) Put it in their bread basket and you have a dead pig.

Whichever bullet is just about right!! I've killed pigs with my 308 from 150 SP, 155 ELD-M, 165 Sierra Game King , 168 A-max and 168 ELD-M. My favorite is probably the 155 ELD-M, which is my bulk line of 308 Win ammo. The coolest bullet I've found is the 152 grain Lehigh Controlled Chaos bullet. That is a BAAAAAD beeeotch!! When shooting suppressed, the "thud" you get is more pronounced than any other bullet I've seen. It seems to drop critters quicker. I started playing with the 55 grain Controlled Chaos in the 224 Valkrie, and liked it so much that I wanted to try it in a 308. I'm really liking that bullet!!!

As others have said, the .308 is a hog killing machine with any of the bullets for which it is loaded. Here's a few of my factory pig killers, and I have a couple of reloads that I've tried as well. All of 'em have performed very well.

If you're using a thermal scope, most are recoil rated at .308, max. So, figure 180g loads, max. Rather than risk trashing a 3K+ thermal scope, I personally limit my reloads to 165g, max, with the Lehigh 152 CC a favorite. But, being kind to my thermal scope, I'll load 125g and up and they all work great. 308 is an awesome caliber for hogs and even the lighter stuff works fantastic.

The only bullet any better than the Lehigh CC for killing hogs or deer would be the TXC 155 Lehigh. Tipped Extreme Chaos. Hogs and deer drop in their tracks and I love that , no tracking. Thanks Daniel

Don't have have hogs up here but a 165 grain partition seems to kill everything from whitetail to bear to moose up here so i expect it would be just dandy on hogs. Thinking hogs are similar to bear - average about 200 lbs with heavy bones and heavy shoulders. The 165 grain partiton puts them down just fine - furthest i have ever had a bear (about a dozen over the last 10 years) go is 12 yards using that bullet.

IMHO, shot placement is more important than whether a bullet fired from a 308 Win rifle is C&C, Bonded, Monometal et al Sig Cross, 308 Win, Factory,150 gr. Norma Soft Points. Distance, +/- 90 yds. I've probably taken 50 or so in the last two years with this rifle. If I do my part they just drop and paddle. ya! BWB

I’ve been using 185gr Bergers with great results. Center punching them, not one has run. This is my favorite live shot game cam picture, knocks them off their feet.

Agree with the shot placement comment. Heaviest animal I ever killed was a large boar, shot right in the heart with a 129 gr. SST bullet, 6.5 Creedmoor. Of all the hogs I've killed with my .308, 165 gr. SST, shot placement is about 4-6", 45° down from ear. They fold up.

ta HF. back in 70's we did ( Myth Busters) type experiment with 22lr. Shooting plastic bottles filled with water, or full cans using various types 22 ammo. As expected hollow points were most devastating. Yellow Jackets came in 2nd. The most devastating were the Stingers by far they were #'erall uno. They have a ☆ star type for hollow point. Not sure if ya can get that type bullet in 308. Using me pirate ARrr 223 on hogs Twas only 1 that didn't recover using the cheap 55gr fmj. With the small diameter bullet. Very little blood trail, most blood stayed in cavity. Heart shots @ close range. Went ta 55gr hollow points. Wish they made a stinger type ☆ star point in 223. Devastating.
