I have a window in a bunk house that needs new glass. I am NOT interested in replacing it with double pane. This is not a well insulated building so replacing it with single pane will make no difference. I'm tired of window fogging and don't want to have to deal with it on this particular window again.

Not looking to replace the whole window, just the glass.

Clean out old window Silicone a piece of DBS aka 1/8" glass in the frame and be done.

The idiots that ordered the widows (previous owners) made them to where you have to do the install from the exterior. The problem is the windows are about 15ft off the ground. Extension ladder is the only way to get up there. I can do it, but I get dizzy from my BP meds, so probably not a good idea for me to do it.

Can I just have some glass cut and just press it in? The glass in there now has a metal? frame around the glass and then some cheap plastic angle to keep it in place.

Upper or lower pane? Are you going to want to open window?

I want to replace both upper and lower. Sometimes I open the window, but rarely.

I would look for some Lexan. It is clear non yellowing plastic sheet. Very forgiving to install. It can be scored and trimmed with a razor blade knife.

I had a double pane insert replaced a few years ago. The guy used a propane torch to melt sealer to remove insert.

This would be my plan as well. Likely cheaper than glass and a heck of a lot easier to get up a ladder and put in place.

Can you see clearly through it at distance?

I replaced the windows in a wooden garage door with Lexan. I needed something to withstand soccer ball strikes. Best I remember I could see out with no problem. I am not sure what you consider a distance.

As usual, it is hard to give DYI advise due to variables. But I remember old double pane windows were thick and solid. If the window frame relies on the metal framed insert for strength, there could be an issue with flexing. I have replaced single pane glass with double strength as suggested. But even double strength glass is unforgiving if frame is not square and solid.

I sold that house years ago. But from the out side no one could tell any difference. Just clean with any non vinegar solutions.

Strength issues?- Uses and cost will range from single strength glass pane to DBS, then acrylic (Plexiglas), laminated glass (LD), and Polycarbonate (Lexan). Glass cleans better and is resistant to scratching, LG doesn't scratch, is stronger and safer, but heavier. Acrylic yellow, gets brittle, and is not impact resistant very well. Polycarbonate is lighter, up to 250x stronger and impact resistant. Also UV resistant. Highest cost also
