My daughter and SIL are looking at buying a small place (50ish acres) a few miles ESE from Hallettsville. Mainly a place to get away, recreational, hunting, etc. I did a search on the forum, but not finding many threads on how the hunting is around that area. Any input on size, density, etc. would be appreciated. It is a mix of open and brushy, wet weather creek, couple of tanks, some elevation (for that area). Thanks in advance!

I'm 15-20 miles from there in Colorado Co. No monster bucks. Deer #s and size will depend on neighbors in the area and feeding year round to improve. May be some quail and turkey. Dove and maybe a few ducks on the tanks.

We have family land West of Halletsville. There are a lot more deer around than in the 70s-80s, that's for sure. We can see deer also every time out but finding bucks 3+ yrs old is difficult as land holdings are smaller and there can be pockets of heavy hunting. In our area a 120 class buck is "big" with rumors of a few 140s every so often.

Our place is just south of there in Jackson County roughly halfway between Edna and Hallettsville. Deer and hogs are plentiful. We have some turkey too. The deer are small bodied coastal plains deer. We've been on a feeding program and management program for 20+ years and our mature bucks are in the 130's. May get a 140 every once in a while. If you're looking at 50ish acres, a lot will depend on the neighbors

I live south of there in neighboring Victoria county, but drive up to the Hallettsville area all the time for various reasons. I had a lease for 25 years not that far away. There are tons of deer but like the posts above stated, 120's would be nice bucks with maybe an occasional 130. A 140 sneaking in would be rare. The size of the neighbors and how hard they hunt will be the determining factor on the type bucks seen but does are plentiful. Should be hogs around too.

Thanks again! They are selling in Fayette county, so sounds like similar size and possibly a few more deer population ... please chime in with any more info that might be good to know
