Drew a hog hunt at Mad Island in March, and wanted to see if anyone had any tips. I attempted to search the forum but the main thing it returned was a long thread on Epstein's Island. So if anyone has advice on hunting Mad Island WMA, it would be much appreciated.

I quail hunted it a few years ago. I saw several while walking around with the dogs. Corn your lanes well on the first day and I bet you see some before the hunt is over.

We fish back in there a lot, and see plenty of hogs. Pay attention to what TPWD personnel tell you. Majority are killed the first day, with decreasing success each hunt. They wise up pretty fast. Be prepared for long shots!!
Beer and whiskey, 'cause you can't drink bacon!!

Be prepared for long shots!! I assumed the first day would be the best, but thanks for the confirmation!

I drew the Mad Island hog hunt in 2021. Only 2 killed the first evening for the hunt. Shooter had the stand along the north perimeter and the came from the private property.

We were at Mad Island for the youth Hog Hunt in December and out of 10 kids there were only 3 hogs brought in both days. Two were large Boars not sure about the third. We had lots of sign, but the Hogs were hitting our corned stand during the night and we only seen a few Does. We did see another large Boar at one of the stands that no one was assigned to going in for our first hunt. We were also drawn for the April hunt. Those of you hunting the March hunt leave some for us. LOL

For those who are interested, I had a great time down at Mad Island WMA for a hog hunt. All the standbys were able to get in, and the staff was super helpful. I was lucky enough to be sitting in a blind with a couple of hogs bedded down behind me, and I heard them rooting around for an hour or so before they finally stepped out. The first one was a big sow, that I hit with a neck shot, and the second was a smaller boar that I shoulder shot. The second one ran off, but the first didn't get far. I also saw all kinds of wildlife throughout the first day, including deer, a bobcat, coyotes, owls, and one completely unafraid raccoon that was bumping noses with the second hog I shot. Whoever mentioned that it drops off quickly was right, as the second day we only saw/heard birds.

good job misteree! I was a standby hunter and I sat in D the first day and had a single doe that I watched for hours. The next day I moved to U and I had multiple groups of deer come in and feed on my corn. I had a great time just watching nature and relaxing. Didnt see any hogs but they are out there for sure. Ill be back next week.
Later Big
GO TRUMP!

Later Big Ah, my buddy was in U, but we took off after the second hunt. The deer you saw are probably the ones in one of the pics above!
