Outside of Africa, I'd say acrylic as it doesn't hold water and the fibers don't compress. HOWEVER, the camp staff in charge of laundry will iron your clothes, sock,s and underwear to prevent botfly larvae from hatching.

I am a Darn Tough over the calf hunter fan! I bought some to try a while back because they were a deal on GOVX and will be wearing them any time I am wearing socks going forward. Hot or cold the wool is the way to go!

Just pick something that insures against blisters. Don't overthink it, just enjoy the trip! 'Well-respected Zim PH that was a friend of mine wore no socks and crappy Chinese tennies. (I tried to avoid looking at his feet when we got back to camp and he put sandles on. )

Dang Bobo, make up your mind(so I can make up mine.) I planned to get darn tough but there were so many options I couldnt decide. I plan to wear for about everything, so is the light weight good for all around?

I just wore normal athletic socks, probably under armor or Nike, when I was down there.

I'm not over thinking and trying not overpack. If wife were going she'd probably be wear full armour. I'm actually planning to travel with no checked bags and do 1 back pack carry on and a smaller back pack personal item. Not carrying guns mainly for that reason this trip.

Camofire usually has a few good deals on smartwool, darntough and farm to feet. It you are prone to blisters Leukotape P tape is the ticket. Warning you cant usually remove it until about 3 days in. I pre-apply

I do a polypropylene thin sock for moisture wicking and blister control first then a merino wool sock over this, has worked for years.

I hunted for 11 days in South Africa in June. It's pretty much like our winter here but maybe milder like today. I never thought twice about having special socks. However, do layer because an hour or 2 into the day you will be down to jeans and a shirt.
